Shhhhhhh....Let us not get too confident here. The Yankees have typically assembled an incredible team, and they can come back and kick us in the ass at anytime...

I prefer to be somewhat of a silent optimist...

Ok I am curious. I am not originally from the New England area and I am still learning all the terminology you all have out here. Brent and I were on our way back from NY this Tuesday and we saw a sign on the Pike that said:

"Congrats Sox, Cowboy Up"

What the hell does cowboy up mean?

If some one could please enlighten me I would really appreciate it.

stoneman is right. althuogh i am a huge red sox fan, let us not forget that they have proven time and time again, that they have a phenomenal talent for falling flat on their faces in the post season. they are doing so well right now, that it scares me. this is not the team i love. there must be some "angels in the outfield" with them, 'cuz they have been pulling some pretty amazing shit these last few games.... can it last? i dunno. i hope so, but i dunno.

Cowboy up sounds gay.

Guess it means put on your game face though.

"Cowboy up" _ meaning they are ready to pick themselves up and keep going.

Did you see the episode of South Park when they had the indie film festivle and all they did was play movies about gay cowboys who liked to eat pudding and rub it on themselves. Thats what it makes me think of

Howard Stern was telling Artie to get ready to "Gay off" yesterday.

Reminded me of "Cowboy up" for some reason.

This whole 'cowboy up' thing is rediculous. Just another stupid saying or slogan that New Englanders came up with to draw attention from the real action. A war cry? Hardly. Show of unity? That's what the 'buzz cuts' were all about...

I agree with the haircut thing. Except for pretty boy Jonny Damon, it tells one another that they're all in it together and they're all as one. Playing sports nearly my whole life, I can relate to that...

But these silly little sayings and phrases drive me nuts. 'Squish the Fish', 'Reverse the Curse', 'Silence of the Rams', 'Cowboy Up'. All things the press and marketers beat into oblivion that make us look like bigger schmucks should they fall short...

I'm as much a Sox fan as any one, and I'll probably sob like a school girl IF they win The Series this year. But being a New England area sports fan my whole life, I've learned to accept defeat with issues such as this. Always hope for the best, but expect the worst. And by all means, drop this stupid 'Cowboy Up' crap and let 'em all focus on what's really going on here...THE GAME...

Cowboy up came from Kevin Millar from Texas and used it to describe his mental attitude when he wanted to pump the team up to get going through the stretch. Its a tough guy war cry when the chips are down.

Negative. Kevin Millar is just the mouthpiece (no disrespect intended with that) that made it mainstream. It was actually wunna the 'newer' relief pitchers that started using it...
