I scanned most of these half-assed cause I didn't have much time. If there is one you like I can clean it up and get you a much nicer file or a print.

The file names are rider#_corner#_description for the most part.

I will have to see what is up, when is the next race weekend? At most I will be able to come up for part of the day. I'm pretty much doing at least one bicycle race every weekend.

I did just finally get a digital camera body though, so this won't be a PITA for me to take tons of shots and then just cram them up on to the web quickly anymore. I am sooooo sick of scanning. It's fun when it's one or two artistic pictures that I can spend time on, but it's really annoying when I've got 200 pictures and I'm trying to pick out the best ones and some that I don't care about but you guys might like.

One way it to volunteer to be a corner worker for the afternoon. That way, you can get REAL close to the action and get some good shots !

You could also try talking to one of the corner marshalls before the racing starts. The one in 3/10 and the one in the bowl is easy to get to without walking half way around the track. If you ask if they will let you get a few shots during one of the races, they may let you as long as you stay behind them. The few that I have worked with are pretty cool about that if you get their OK ahead of time.

To go into 3/10 you just need to go into the Press office and ask to sign a waiver and get your wrist band endorsed. The head corner worker at 3/10 will ask to see your wristband.

They asked me a lot more questions the first time I did it then the subsequent times. Once they've seen you a few times they'll pretty much just let you sign the form and go.

I'm not sure how you get permission to go anywhere else. There was a guy on the inside of 9 coming down the hill, you can see him in some of my pictures. Being that close to the track on the inside is very challenging but I bet he got awesome pictures.

I would assume as long as no one does anything stupid they will continue to be pretty cool about it.

Ben

That was John Owens. He's been around so long that I was buying black and white glossies from him in '81. I'm pretty sure that you would have to be a professional in order to get to the other areas. This would include paying a vendor's fee ($500?) to the track and showing proof of insurance that specifically shields NHIS from any liability should something happen to you. And you'd need to wear a green vest issued by Fred Neergaard so that we could tell at a glance that you had signed the waiver.

I work at start/finish at the USCRA events and I'm in a great position to walk right out on the track and get shots like this:
