Talking

F1 Boston 12/12/04

It's been talked about at the track a lot and mentioned here a few times. Plans as of now are for the second Sunday of every month until the racing season starts back up again, the first one being Sunday the 12th of December.
Here's what i'm thinking we can do, i did it last year this way and had a killer time!! 2 races back to back on Track 1 (you get out of the kart and sit back down in another one), plan on a 45 minute break (it's never usually that long but you should plan it that way) then do another 2 races back to back on Track 2

Sundays is $20/race so you'd be looking at $80 just for the racing, you also get 20 laps per race on a Sunday We can eat and hang out for a drink there when we are done racing. I think the leagues start around 5pm so we should be done before 5. I'd plan on being there around noonish but that will be confirmed at reservation.

As for the reservations, i'll reserve for upto 5 people (including myself) under my license and credit card. Sorry, with the amount of money that'd be involved, i'm not taking a chance on a no-show if i reserved for a large group.

I'll probably call the Wednesday prior to Sunday with a reservation. I'll post what races we are going to be in and about what time they will start/end so if someone else wants to get in with us, they'll know what races to sign up for

I'm in...

Not to Hijack. I know many racers, myself included have had issues with F1 boston, and the way it is run. There is a new track opening in Foxboro next to gillette stadium... if it's open i am going to try to get there on Monday. Look for a full report once it opens. Supposely they have 2 tracks. track 1 being longer that both of F1's tracks combined...Racing America

I have 4 people so far (1 isn't from the site) including myself Next person to reply gets the final spot being reserved under my license. If more people decide to show, you can either take a chance and get there early and hope you get in with our races or if someone else has a license and wants to step up and reserve some spots?

Ok, we have the 5 people

Read This just to make sure everyone is clear about the reservation. I'll have to wait until Friday to call, if you can't make it I NEED to know by Saturday morning!!!
I'll also need your full name before i make the reservations.

The reservation is just to make sure we all get to race together as a group. If you want to go and give it a try, chances are you'll be able to show up and sign up for some that day. Should be a lot of fun

Sorry to highjack your thread, but.....

You should all come karting up in Montreal sometime. The karts are faster, the rules considerably less restrictive, and there are 5 tracks in the city of Montreal. A couple have trackside bars; you can kart drunk, I've done it.

As an additional plus, their money is only worth the equivalent sized square of toilet paper. Runs are WAYYYY cheaper than F1.

The BMW Club of Canada does some racing the first Saturday of each month, or else maybe an NESR trip??

I hope to god that you are kidding. If so then stop reading cause this is going to be a major rant. If not then it's the stupidest thing i've ever heard. I know there is lots of Karting in Montreal and that the rules are less restrictive, and cheaper costs are always good, but to get on track with anyone who is drunk or even has been drinking is complete insanity!! "Let's get drunk, wear less protective gear, and go race around a track at 50 mph" That's ludacris! I wouldn't consider getting on any track that allow people to race drunk, that's a serious accident waiting to happen! I take racing very seriously. It's expensive and I want to maximize my time on track. Within the next couple years i'd like to be racing in the Rotax series, (32 HP, 2 speed shifter karts capable of 120+ MPH) as well as be good enough to race on Team USA and run in the 24 hour race in Portugal. I love every minute of racing but it is dangerous enough as is, never mind having to worry about getting slammed into by some drunk. I've already dealt with enough stupid SOBER people on track, nevermind Drunks. I spent the weekend racing at Moroso Speedway in West Palm, FL in a 6 hour endurance race. I ran as an individual, but my team finished 4th overall and 1st in class. I would be seriously pissed off if some drunk hurt one of my teammates or took that finish away from us because they drank too much. On Monday i was reading about a race in Europe with several professional F1 drivers, and a driver's leg was broken when he was was hit by another kart. Too many people don't give karting the credit it deserves. So many people think it's just kids stuff. Unfortunately what they don't know is that many of the BEST race car drivers started their careers racing Karts.

This is my own personal opinion but racing drunk is not something I would be proud of....

Thanks for the lecture, Dad.

P.S. - They're karts. Dont take yourself, or your "racing" too seriously, mmkay?

Glad to help Sport.

Some of the best professional drivers got their starts "racing" Karts. Michael Schumacher started in Karts.

Tony Kanaan, Hélio Castroneves, Gil de Ferran, and Christian Fittipaldi all competed recently in the Granja 500 in Brazil.

"As expected by the high number of competitors, many accidents ocurred during the race, mostly causing only material damage. In one of them, Luciano Burti (Ferrari’s test driver) finished his team’s dream as he hit a tire barrier after a steering column failure, and in another Stephan de Sabrit had to be transported to a nearby hospital with a broken leg after spinning on the entrance to the straight and being hit by another kart."

All I'm saying is that alcohol is not a factor that i want to add into the equation. And i think that anyone who races anything will agree to that. It doesn't matter if it's arrive and drive racing or the season finals and you are racing for the points championship, alcohol has not place on the track. just my .02.

I'm not saying I advocate drunk karting....I'm just saying one can have a few beers, and ride a go kart, and have a good time.

The karts you are talking about are a very different story than the ones found at an indoor kart track. Would I enter into a serious race (of any kind, for that matter) while drinking? Of course not. But when I get together witha group of friends to goof off in the winter months, having a few beers is often a part of that, and its especially fun at a kart track.

If you aren't into that, then fine, but please save the soapbox
speech about how serious karting is for a serious kart race.

I'm calling tomorrow around 6 PM to reserve our spots.
Degsy, Bentbryan, Phreak and Daytona440 if for some reason one of you guys can't make it, you need to let me know by this time tomorrow, Friday at 6pm If you don't let me know and don't show, by leaving your name on this list, you're agreeing to pay me the $80

Again, it's $80 each and you're paying me back the $80. Bring cash, i'm not a bank and don't want any checks

Once i know the times and race numbers that we're in, i'll post them up. The site says be there an hour before to give you time to sign in and all that shit.

This is gonna be fun
