RTFM , novices do not accumulate points. to advance you need to
RTFM which states that Novice to Amateur - A minimum of 10 races, and an index of .500 or better. A
rider that does not meet these criteria may, upon the completion of an additional
10 races, request advancement at which time his history will be scrutinized.
Any novice rider that has the minimum number of races and an index of .750 or
better will be automatically advanced for the following year.

your welcome, now go RTFM

Different format. last year we had amatuers, jr. experts and experts. All of which earned points. this year the change was made so that when our jr. experts (now amatuers) go elsewhere to race they will be racing amongst other amatuers. The way they were classed last year they would have had to race as experts since CCS did not recognize jr. expert classification. The formula to calculate your index is in your 2005 manual so RTFM

Dan was an amatuer--you are not

As for the index, they expect you to be able to do simple math. Its in the rulebook, you still haven't read it.

i just half read things apparently ..and technically Dan was a novice last year as is this year even if it was titled something else. so i get nothing at the end of the year if i stay a NV and "win" something like Thunderbikes? if this answer requires a FM im gonna be mad that i actually have to read something

ok, lets make this nice and rosey clear

YOU are a NOVICE

DAN was an AMATUER last year.

See the difference yet?

Since YOU are NOT an AMATUER, YOU do NOT get to have thing only AMATUERS get.

Don't like it, get faster.

Yes you do only read half of what is written. Dan was a Amatuer last year according to the rules. He had enough point s to bump up to jr. expert but chose not to so that he could win the Formula 40. Maybe if Heath isn't busy he could RTFM to you before he tucks you in for bed or you could just finish 1st in every race you enter and then the powers to be will bump you up to Amatuer automatically

After this weekend I'll have my 10 races. I have read the manual but a couple things I need clarified or I don't remember.

1.) What does a DNF count as? Is that part of the 10 races or is it not counted at all?

2.) Coming in dead last. (I crashed and wanted to finish the race last lap) Does this work for me or against me? Am I better off taking a DNF or dead last? I know it's bad for my index.

3.)I heard or read something about dropping your worst finish in calculating the rider index? Is this done when you request to be advanced?

thanks kids.

1. You need to COMPLETE 10 races

2. Against you.

3. You can drop your best finish as an Am/EX for a championship

for the record....HEATHer is MY bitch not the other way around and im not that slow.
and reading is hard and stuff....
so again.....i wont get anything for "winning" in Nv? other than of course moving up in which case you dont really stand much of a chance in winning in AM because you are way behind in points...right?
also....where are the AM/EX points located at? maybe i still have a chance to win in AM

You don't get dick for winning Novice. No Novice Championship, no point, nothing. I do believe they do this so that us n00bs concentrate more on riding, than competing and going 'over our heads'.

Yes I'm a novice as well.

I do *believe* that last year the rules for advancement from 'Am' to 'Juniors' was 10 Race, 42 points, and a index of .500. For 2005 they have dropped the 42 points thing apparently even thou they still list Points in the race results.

They ALSO LIST your index in the race results. You can find it there. Do figure out your Total Overall Index (what you need a .500 to advance) do a lil math.

For Example.
Alex Race 8 - 10th Place / 19 entries / .474 index / 3 points
Alex Race 13 - 5th Place / 12 entries / .583 index / 8 points
Total - .528 index / 11 points

.474 + .583 / 2 = .528
3 + 8 = 11

Moving on. To help you with the terminology problem, that some have already explained in different terms.. compare

pre-2005
Amateur - Junior Expert (aka: Juniors) - Expert
Yellowplate w/ Black numbers - White w/ Red - White w/ Black

2005-onward
Novice - Amateur - Expert
White w/ Red numbers - Yellow w/ Black - White w/ Black

back in the old days it was novice (white/red plate), then you needed 40 points to go to junior (yellow/black plate, then after 60 points you moved on to expert (white/black plate) ..

the index method sounds like a nice method to move up with xx amount of races entered and finished....theres just so many people racing now than when i did...

Is lrrs the only race organization that has a "junior" class, i think it used to be, just not sure if it still is....

It used to be but there is no more junior class. It's now novice, amature and expert.

I am disappointed with the replies from our board in this thread.

Many of the harsh “read the fucking manual” type of words are coming from those whom asked the very same questions when you were beginners.

Brian is fast, he will be advancing before any of you could. Give the rookie a break, others gave you a break when you started out.

I tried to call Oxx to sooth his bruised heart but 603-123-4567 isn't a valid phone number. Are you sure that's the number?
