125 GP championship fight

Well, The stars were all aligning for a great opportunity for me to win the championship this weekend. The weather was great, the bike was fast, and I was riding well.

In Friday practice I tested my stock reed cage back to back with my V-force cage, confirming that The bike is better all around with the V-force. I was easily in the 17s in practice.

Saturday morning, my confidence was building, and I ran a string of 3 laps at 1:17.0 in practice with traffic. That is a winning pace to be sure!

Then, I changed the oil to find METAL chunks in it! Aluminum. Hmmm… I pulled the clutch and found everything in tact. The only other aluminum in there (besides the cases) is a lockring on the back of my Talon clutch basket. I had no time, so I put fresh oil in it and went out for the race.

The start was the usual mayhem. this time it was Zack who locked bars with a four stroke. He ran off track, but stayed up hammering the throttle through the grass and bouncing onto the track in front of me! Eric Yoo and Jeff wood had gotten through clean and were gone. I put my head down and Followed Zack through the sea of motards until we finally had clear track.

Eric was coming back to us quickly and we were ON IT! I would come out of 12 right on Zack’s tail and draft past him into T1. We went in there 2 wide nearly every lap! I passed him once, and he repassed in 3. He was doing everything in his power to keep me from clearing away, but I kept upping the pace.

I finally got past him into Turn one with enough distance to prevent a counter attack in T3. I had broken him, and Eric was coming to me VERY quickly. It was MINE! Then the red flag flew on lap 6. The race was over, and scored back to lap 5, which put me in 4th place! Ugh…

I did a 1:16.51 giving me the fastest 125 lap of the season. That’s the best I have ever ridden. Zack was actually holding me back when I did that. The bike was hooked up and I know I had a little more pace. Oh well. It wasn’t meant to be…

When Lisa opened the clutch after the race There were huge hunks of the lockring aluminum that had been stamped through the primary drive gear… Ouch! Glad there’s only one meet left!

Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion… Oct. 1st Winner take all!

No, I fell back. Eric has a 1 point lead going into the last round. Whoever finishes in front wins it!
