Hah. Yes I SUX with a X.

Nef, we cool, again my apologies. Come hang out next weekend and help me hoot and yell at Chad from Turn 1a.

heh. I laughed at the 'everyone is a graphic designer' comment as well. I hear that. Man, I do miss designing real bad at some points. Friend of mine who was my freelance design partner moved to LA a year or two ago. He's now the lead designer at Variety handling pretty much all there GD. While I currently pursue a career outside of the design world, that was more a happy accident than anything else (and I'm quite happy).

Design is such a great field in that you can apply the principle across so many genre's. I will say my pile of mags and dvd's featuring our work is among some of my most prized possesions

btw: Hi Deb.

WMRRA Online Registration

Doesn't look like it took much to set that up...? In its most basic setup you could just has a form that gets sent to an e-mail and then someone has to enter all the data from there manually like they do with the faxes.

that now makes it a two step process. They will not process or form until they have money.

i'm still not sure what is wrong with the current method of submitting for races. It seems to work for them ... yeah sometimes shit happens, but it would happen with online form submission too.

All the sites I do are DB driven and I could get something done in a day, including online registration ... but you will still have the same problems you have now, but now just another way to encounter them.

Nothing is 'wrong' with what they do now per-say it is just a bit behind the times. Why not have it set up so you go online enter all your info (including CC info) and click submit. It automatically e-mails you a confirmation page with your grid position for each race. You print out a copy of this and give it to that little house you sign in at. They take it from you confirm and give you a transponder and you are all set.

Once a race is complete, they enter the times into a website and it automatically generates PDF files with everyones times ect. They already have electronic scoring so you could even use that info to automatically generate the PDF files.

i think you guys should build a site and show them what it could be ...

granted, I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't get paid weekly for it, because the hassel that comes with running a website with data like that is not worth it.

yeah, you say it can be easy, but nothing is easy with the web and the stupid people that use it.

I think it would be great to register online and get confirmation, but I just created a form out of the PDF file and just printed off 6 race entry forms ready to be mailed in ... took me 5 minutes

if I had to fill in an online form for each weekend, it would have taken me 20 minutes.

Not too much open source that pertains to this, I'm trying to find something I can modify so it would work for this. If I knew some ASP or PHP that would help

i agree, but doesn't mean they will know or care how to use it. In theory its great, but shit, look at this:

http://www.edithwharton.org
http://www.shakespeare.org
http://www.arcadian.com

These are all CMS sites that I built for those clients, yet we still end up doing the updates because they don't want to be bothered.

My point is, if they will have to want a new system ... but obviously they are content with the way things are now ...

well im just refering (building) to a system that we here can use to track one another, etc etc in something a little more streamlined than searching through threads.

for example, im up at the track cornerworking races I am not in, I can quickly look at my phone and get the plate numbers of every NESR memember in said race, and not neglect to take thier pictures.

or from the same site, tie in pictures of the race #, to each racer

so on so forth

No I do not race. No I do not know the current reg process. No I have nothing to do with any of the sites below... But.

There is no need for LRRS to reinvent the wheel. They can keep the crappy web site and link something like:

www.speedreg.com

Many race orgs use sites like this to handle this stuff, no worries about keeping the site going they do it for you.

Heck they could even download your laptimes to someone like

www.mylaps.com

and you guys could log in and see how fast you were last week.

I am sure there are several sites providing each of these services and maybe some that offer both in the same site.

My only point is no need to spend time and money on developing a site when the services already exist.

Best of luck with the "old guys" Remember someday it will be you running the joint.

WTF is a software engineer? Because I'm pretty sure I am one too, but that's just a title I gave myself. I'm also president and chief technology officer of my own company, HonCorp. We design advanced synergy. And we're better than you.
