I read it I would argue that Ultralight Superbike is a better class than Thunderbike.

Based on my research best Motardy classes would be:

Motard
Super-singles
Lightweight Sportsman
Ultralight Superbike

followed by

GTL
Lightweight Superbike
Lightweight Grand Prix
Thunderbike

Obviously with guys like Gosselin running 16's-18's a motard can be competitive in almost ANY class if you really wanted to get down to it.

Is it April yet?

Yeah, I'll be AM. Scott doesn't need no EX! He just needs more races.

Motard Racing Questions

Why's everyone hatin' on the tards?

We're just tryin' to have some fun! Plus, their one of the cheapest bikes to race! (as long as you don't blow 'em up).

We hate on motards because they're a point and shoot bike, they get into nearly any class and have no need for or sense of lines in comparison to a race bike. They throw off the rythme, the lines, and block passes (even not for possition ) Motards belong in the motard class or on a supermoto track. I see them as a loophole in the rules and an obsticle in most classes.

Oh, and just about anyone can get on a motard and put down low 20's without knowing what they're doing.....take Heath for example!

Motard Racing Questions

Any bike that gets wildly popular really quick gets a little bashed by the people who resist the trend. It happened with EXs, then SVs, now motards. Basically any new lightweight that shakes the status quo will cause this. Something better than the motards will come along, and then all the motard guys will decry it. It's human nature to criticize what you don't have... and to bond with others while doing it... I wouldn't take it personally. Just beat em to the line!!!

I'm not saying they're not a blast and I'm not saying it doesn't take talent to put down fast times on them. We all know both are true. I mostly just want one for urban mischief though. using the sidewalks, pedestrian bridges, jumping curbs and park benches....you know the stuff that keeps my lawyers in business.,,,,

All your lines belong to us.

I think Paul hit the nail on the head. "Dirtbikes? What the hell are dirtbikes doing at a roadracing track!"

Motard Racing Questions

i don't actually hate motards. though one decided to park in front of me in turn 3 once in morning practice of all things. i've passed some motards and have been passed by motards and that was the only close call. they actually look like fun and i wouldn't mind giving one a go, but i'm really short and don't do well on dirt bikes....nor do i have much dirt bike experaince. i doubt i'd ride it well.

as far as the taking of lines and what not i could ask that motard riders be careful....but that already pretty much applies to everyone that races anyways.

I've been in a couple SCARY races w/ motards... Most notable one was a novice PTwins race where they started the SuperSingles in the front row of the PTwins wave. Clayton & I were both just as fast, if not faster than a few of those guys, but they were riding like idiots almost taking themselves out & others on a number of occations. We passed em a few times only to be stuffed somewhere else in the same lap. I think Clayton & I did 26's & 27's for most of that race battling w/ those jokers where we shoulda been doing 24's & 25's riding in clear track.

Bottom line, there were multiple very close calls during that entire race that shouldn't have happened if they were riding smart. It was seriously gettin outta hand.

Motard Racing Questions

Getting stuck behind people that are 1-2 seconds slower than you is just part of learning. It's not exclusive to motards. Any bike that has different power characteristics will be tough to pass. It takes some time to learn what it takes to put them behind you and keep them there.

Rough and erratic riding does seem to be part of motard "culture" though. It's much easier to recover from a big bump/hit when you have 7 inches of travel, and sit very near the steering pivot. That kind of stuff shouldn't be tolerated too much in roadracing. It does get dangerous IMO.
