Opinions on a bike for sale please.

Just looking to get some opinions on this bike from people who at least pretend to know what they are talking about.

I've been poking around looking passively for a bike for track days but was going to wait until the end of next season. I found this the other day on another forum:

2001 Honda F4i, 9k miles: $2400. Needs new windscreen, plugs, minor rash on the bodywork, and stator cover looks pretty well ground.

Owners description:
Quote:

The bike needs new plugs, their fouled and it won't cold start very well. And, it needs a new windscreen. The one that was on it was cracked.

The bike has been low sided 3 times. Though I went over the bars, the bike rolled forward and skidded on its side in to the grass at VIR. I rode the back to the pits at a good speed, it's good, the frame sliders did their job. Also, I took all the body work off and did a complete shake down w/ a friend.

There is no title, but I've had the bike stripped down bare when I first got it and took it to my honda garage for a shake down. It got a clean bill of health w/ two new Diablo Corsa tires, new oil, and a K&N filter.

As follows are the details of the bike...

• WERA Superstock legal
• Oil changed after every track day. K&N Oil filter after every 2 track days
• Well maintained
• K&N Air Filter
• AK Composite Bodywork
• Vortex Rear sets
• Vortex rear sprocket 520 (45)
• 15/45 gearing
• Full safety wiring
• GPR Steering Stabilizer
• Micron slip on can
• New DID chain
• New EBC Double H brake pads
• Diablo Corsa tires w/ three tack days on them
• Speedsccreen V2 windshield (needs replaced)
• Frame sliders
• As with most track bikes… No title.

Oh yea, I just added a new battery (keep it on a batery tender) and if you need a pit stand, I could let my PitBul stand go for $50.00
$2400, seems like a sweet deal, or will I pretty much find something like this often? No title something to worry about?

Thanks for any help

Seems ok,

I really wouldn't worry to much about the title if you are not ever going to register it for the road.

Hard to say without actually seeing the bike. however it seems like a pretty good deal for a track bike. the price is deffinatly right and even if it does need some touching up you have all winter to get it ship shape for next season. i wouldn't sweat the title for a track bike....though i would run a VIN check just in case.....no title on my NSR when i bought it.

It seems Like it got No Race Suspension, I would Stay Away. You should only be looking at bikes with the Spingy goodies Like gmd computractk. Forks and Race shock. At loudon it makes all the diffrence. To do The suspension Correctly it would cost well over $1800 over what you paid for the Bike.

Thats Why us poor folk buy race bikes and dont build them,

not a good deal

No, I had asked that. Stock suspension..and I'm not your average sized rider either.

I was just assuming I could scrounge something seeing as there are so many of the dam things running around.

PM responded to.

Track days would be fine. Good price, talk it down a little. Upgrade your suspension as needed, prolly mid season after trackdays don't do it for ya anymnore. Upgrade the suspension and go racing.

Race the bike you like, don't buy somthing "just because". Like gixxers? then don't buy something else.

The bike sounds like a decent deal for a starter. Who is the login that is selling?

A guy from the 675 forums. He's selling the F4i (his first track bike) and is doing the 675 up for full time track duty. He's in WV, which makes it a pain in the ass, but road trips are always fun (but something to be considered in the cost of the bike).

Consider any bike with no title stolen.

That doesn't look like anything special. You can get into the 600RR that I'm building or something similiar with suspension and all the "extras" that he has listed for not much more. How much do you weigh?

Or you could pay some hood $500 and have a "I lost the title" F4i just like that one.

Where's the true but sarcasticlly spoken smiley?

You'll definitly want some kind of suspension, even if it's not tuned just for you. Better than being on stock stuff built for a 140lb rider. The penske I just put on my 600RR project is set for a 210lb rider. Haven't decided if that bike is getting sold or not. Probably won't know till it's all built and together.

+1
No title usually means its a stolen bike, which has little value.

Look into those VIN numbers first
