New Bikeswhy don't we like the F4s any more? was it something they said? or the mysterious tendency to run out of fuel when least expected??? seriously... wassup w/ the change? |

New BikesJust a change people say that the F4 isn't the best bike for racing. Bill likes the suzies and he is the mechanic.. So what do you think Gixxer or SV G |

New BikesAhhh....the Gixxer. The Chevy small block of bikes. You KNOW how I feel about 'em. BTW-How much gas do they hold? ![]() Then again, you can run in more classes with the SV. And I'd imagine that they'd be a bit less involved, mechanically speaking. And I think that the SV's maintenance costs would be less. Plus they get phenominal gas mileage... ![]() |

New BikesSV's are posting respectable numbers. Do the math and I'd pick a gix. If I could, you KNOW I'd be out there on my 1k. |

New BikesI'm in NO way qualified to make that call (I ride a Katana, remember)... but my opinion (free, and worth every cent of it): wouldn't SVs limit how far you could go? while gixxers would be the better long-term investment? ![]() |

New Bikesseriously... the SVs are dominating races all over the place. very forgiving bikes, pretty easy to work on, and it doesn't take very much to get race-worthy. SV all the way. -t |

New BikesI understand that the gas filler cap in a gixxer allows for a better flow into the tank... ![]() |

New BikesPower to weight ratio Jay. I percieve the SV as being a second choice in power to the gix. SV's have been dominating Louden, but they are easy to ride, give me power, I'll learn the rest. It's the same arguement used against the 1k: too much power. For someone starting out, the SV is really a no-brainer. Gerard and Degsy? I don't think they would have as much fun on an SV as they would on a gix. I's like to see a 750 myself. |

New BikesDefinately a gixxer! Espicially if they have the e-z fill gas tank! |

New Bikeshey i don't think i need to post my preference i have heard rumours of 1:20's on STOCK sv's, so who knows SV == very ez to work on, great torque figures, dies at the top end, needs a good deal of race prep (suspension, stock suspension would need a bit of help) GSXR == more race ready out of the box, and the HP to use the torque all the way up to the top At least in cars, louden is a torque track and i think the SV would be more then adequate. Plus, think of all the classes you could dominate with an SV! Just my 2c. Chris |

New BikesSV is also a bit more economical, if that's a concern... |

New BikesWouldn't the SV be easier on tires, and therefore more economical to race? |

New BikesIt would be more economical. In many areas. I hear they crash well IE, inexpensive to repair. Louden would be a good place for the Vtwin type of deceleration too. |

New BikesI think you should check on what you can buy either one for. Their are alot of wrecked Gixxers and can probably pick up a cosmetic wrecked type bike cheap. But if you want to move up in class is the SV gonna be enough bike?? Gixxer is a real good track bike, I guess the real question is how far do you plan to go with racing? Are you happy where you are and can you be competitive on a SV 650 in your class? Cheaper bike to keep running, more prep work to make track ready with less adjustments available (SV) Made for the track alot of parts avaliable (Gixxer) I prefer inline 4's over v's anyways but I would choose the GIXXER. Maybe ask some guys at the track how they feel about their SV's and Gixxer's. |

New BikesOk, here is the deal. After a lengthy conversation last night, Gerard and I pondered next years NESR race bikes. The Sv is an instant winner and VERY economical right out of the box. However, it's magic IS limited. And we are talking long-term. My plans for next year include a trip to Pocono and VIR is not out of the question, depending on if I can field two bikes next year. My initial thought was one of each, to cover all the bases. However, from a practical standpoint, it just wont work. Too many spares to carry around, tuning differences etc. So we are really leaning towards the Gixxer. Thats not to say we wont have an F4 and a gixxer out there..... As a side note, my TLS and all my spares are for sale (for the sake of putting 2 bikes on the track next year). I wont take up space with the details here, but if you have $4,000 and are interested: click here |

New BikesI would go with the gixxer only because of the level that you guys have already reached and the sv may seem like a step back. If you look at economics, there are plenty around, wreked, race bikes being sold,etc.. that you could probably pick 2 up for short money, freshen them up over the winter and be ready to go by spring. |

New BikesSV....add gixxer 600 front end, add Penski, or Ohlins rear. Stock @68 HP. Backcut gears, add race kit, cams, pipe, airbox mods, Plastic, etc. all done, 90HP and one helluva bike! Torque is where it's at at loudon. "V"-Twins are easier on tires too! Bike weighs 370 lbs in street trim. probably get it down to 340, in race trim. Still got carbs, so ya gonna need jets, and drill some "Special holes" in the carb slides. A couple less valves you gotta worry about floating too! Gixxer 600....already has the front end, add valving and springs. Loose stock shock, Has fuel injection, Powercommander all the way. Backcut gears, pipe, airbox mods etc. over 106 HP..won't be legal for SS, so you will have to decide what you want to do. Cost aspecect, by the time you are done, the SV may be less, but it'll be a close one! As for pure 15,000 rev limiter slapping, I'd go Gixxer! But I'm really partial to the SV too. Fuck IT! Get Both! |
