First paint job, track bike is good practice

Painted this up over the weekend... first time ever shooting with a spray gun, still have to buff and mount.

HAd some prep help from a couple members (the magician, 185champ)

I got some free 10' wide plastic from 185champ, and duct-taped both sides along the top, and stapled it to the studs. Then at the bottom, I used a 10 ft length of 3/4 sch40 pvc rolled the plastic a couple times and zip-tied it every 24".

I did 3 walls like that, and used my garage door I don't care about for the 4th wall. The heat was coming from a propane tank on the other half of the garage (behind one of the plastic curtains).

After I was done, I just rolled them up and bungeed them... ready for the next paint job.

edit: just wanted to ntoe the pics taken with the tool boxes, etc. is in the half of the garage with the heat going, no spraying was done around the open flame or tools

Dude you can paint my plastic anytime.

Good job.

If it looks good from 50 feet or 50 mph it is GREAT!

you might as well just walk out side and punt your upper across the garage right now....just get the first scratches right out of the way.

way to put it bluntly haha, I'm sure the bike will change looks throughout the year, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to show up with something nice.

If it gets a battle scar, it will have a story to go with it... If I show up with a bike prepped to crash it's just not good kharma haha.

actually .. its better karma then a having a beautiful bike a race weekend

statistically newly painted bikes find the pavement alot quicker

"just ask me how I know"

I remember spending SO much time before July getting my bike ready for my Amateur debt ... it looked SO nice!

High Sided race 1 and ruined all my hard work.

many, many stories just like mine

EDIT:
don't get me wrong ... i hope it stays nice for you all year long

I'm with you. All that Oogly-Moogly shit about not having new paint or a new helmet always irks me. I like my shit to look nice. My bike had fresh paint all rookie season and didn't see the pavement once.

Some are of the opinion I should have dropped / scratched my $1500 custom painted helmet because otherwise it's just 'asking for it'. Giving me the above advice is 'asking for it'

heh.

Both theories are correct...
it's bad karma to have nice paintjobs, but it's good karma to have nice paintjobs

I say paint it nice, but don't cry over a spilled bike.
