race season over before it startsso. instead of draining all the coolant out my bike i usually just store it in heated storage. well this year there was no room in my dads unit to fit the bike so i put it in my friends basement. today he calls me at around 2 to tell me that his basement is flooded and the water is almost up to my handlebars. i rush to get there and by then its up to the gas cap. i cant get it out and now it just sits there in 3+ ft of water. i can only imagine how bad its gonna be. i actually cried when i went down there. i just paid that bike off in august and now... well... who knows. hes made a claim with his HO ins. but im not sure how it will go down. so i dont know if ill be up there this year. ![]() |

race season over before it startsDamn dude I'm sorry to hear that.. I submerged my CRF250 COMPLETELY in a water/mud hole about 3 weeks after I bought it. I freaked. After we flipped it over and drained all the water out it restarted eventually... I hope it works out okay. |

race season over before it startsyeah. i think the "flip over" method isnt really gonna work on this one. im hoping all the electronics will survive and im pretty sure the motor is gonna have to be torn down. this all of course depends on what the ins. co. says. i wonder if that brand new Penske is gonna be all right being submerged. |

race season over before it startsSorry to hear...that's a real bummer. I'd get it out of there if you can. The longer it sits the worse it's gonna be. |

race season over before it startsWell if it has to go the Insurance Route, just think of the sick new machine you can put together. Full OEM pricing on motorcycle parts / aftermarket goodies is rediculous. That's the bright side I'm attemping to look at. |

race season over before it startsi can look at bright sides when i hear from the ins. if i get reeeeeal lucky maybe i get a big check, get to keep the bike, and put flatslides and HC pistons in it. but things like that dont usually happen to me so ill get a check for $2500 and then they take the bike and im nowhere...well see. ill get pics up when my buddy sends them. |

race season over before it startsMan, that really sucks Oxx. I don't think the electrical components would go bad. I mean realistically, water is no good with electronics that are ON, but if everything dries out when you take it apart, it should be good. Thats going to be a lot of work pulling it apart though. I feel for you man. That really really is the breaks. |

race season over before it startsI wouldnt imagine it being tooooo bad.... I do have a cell phone that a guy gave me that went through the wash. he thought it was broken & let me have it to take apart. I took out the battery, popped it back it, and it's still working good as new. p.s: dont tell him.... |

race season over before it startsholy f-ing shit.... +1. bring it. as mentioned the electrics should be ok as long and they're dried out and the motor should be ok as long as it's not cranked over. the penske is sealed so i wouldn't think that wouldnt go bad... |

race season over before it startsGet it out! Let it dry. Put it in a room with a dehumidifier if you can. Drain the oil/coolant/gas COMPLETELY. Flush it out with some cheap oil. Put new fluids in and cross your fingers. Press the button. |

race season over before it startsSorry to hear the bad news. fwiw, homeowners and renters insurnace companies usually never cover any type motor vehicles, not even ATVs, snow-mobiles, or dirtbikes. |

Change/flush all the fluids, maybe repack the wheel bearings and relubricate some other stuff, and you should be good to go. Sure the oil might have a little water in it but big deal, can't see why you'd need a motor teardown. |

race season over before it startsIf you need help pushing it through the pond I'm here to help. Also if you need/want help pulling it apart also let me know. (I'd probably be more help pushing though and would be more of a wrench bitch on the teardown.) Let me know either way, you have my cell #. |

race season over before it starts Sorry to hear Ox. The only thing I would be worried about is the water getting into the carb and into the heads. Don't attempt to turn her over with the plugs in. Hydraulic lock. If you do get it out, dry immediately as everyone mentioned. Do not let it sit around and allow the rust to begin to form. |

race season over before it startsDamn oxx. This royally sucks! Like everyone has said, a good drying should take care of it. Just make sure it's COMPLETELY dry. I think you can pull it off before the race season. |

race season over before it startsThat sucks... but I wouldn't write it off yet. Get it out of the water... change the fluids and pull the plugs... let it dry out completely. I'd also shoot some wd40 into the cylinders... heck spray everything with wd40... it's purpose after all is to disperse water. Clean the intakes, carbs and don't forget the exhaust. If you can tear apart the engine then do that... otherwise... try turning it over with the plugs still out to see if any water comes out. |

race season over before it startsOxx, First, if you need a hand getting it out of the place that it is in let me know and I will do what I can about getting up there to help you out. Second, if you need a garage to do the work on the bike to get it dried out etc. you are welcome to use my garage. I can make room and let you have access etc. and I am also willing to help you get your bike cleaned up. I am in Haverhill not exactly right down the road but it's a garage. Joel |
