Hey Racers, can you help me enter T11 better?

Hi Folks,

I'm wondering if you guys are running your tires near the outside curbing when you go into turn 11. I work with a former LRRS racer that has told me you guys practically drive over the outside curb when coming in there.

This is just one of the spots on the track I've been trying to figure out.

Can you tell me your thoughts in regard to this part of the track?

Would the new videos on Tony's site help? There is a video of Ken following Tony around on what seems like a pretty quick lap to me, you know...the guy whos never been on a track and has no idea what he's talking about

Don't know if that helps you in any way..

Bob, I'm on top of that curb too, no big deal. Unless someone squeezes you and you M/X it. Woo-Hoo!

i find I am able to carry my best speed through 11 when I am also right on the curb. There is actually red paint there which is a good turn in marker.

IMO It's a good idea to leave yourself a couple feet between tire and curb. That way if someone pushes you out from the inside, you have a little wiggle room. OR if some is blazing around the outside, you don't push him off the track. There's no real benefit to using that last foot of pavement as the hot line around 11 is the tightest one you can run.

Loudon in general is not a track where you need every inch of pavement. It's very wide at most all the turn in points.

I'd love to follow you around on a practice session one day. Seems like I'm riding a little bike in big bike lines. That or a trackday. It's worth quite a bit of beer to me!

Not to mention that if you go to the curb, I'll pass you up the inside everytime! Door wide open.

Most people who use the curb are standing the bike up to brake hard in a straight(er) line before tipping it in. The fast way through involves trailing brakes at moderate lean.

Eric Bostrom and Mladin were mowing the grass on the inside of 11 with their knees to the point that there was a long dirt trail there at the end of the race. If you're not getting your knee at least ON the curbing, you've got room for improvement. They never stood the thing up at all to brake on the way in either... Knee down from before the first apex curb (on left) all the way out.

Yea.. I was setting up a jabroni for a outside of T11 move and he pushed wide to the curb last second. Caused me to jump the curbing, one foot on the pegs (riding foot out style that time around), downshifting twice, braking, and making the pass, in midair. It was AWESOME.

I would LOVE to watch a video of one of them railing at loudon. What type of lap times did they run? I for one, could use a ton of help in to 11.. I find myself coasting in a lot of the time.

Isn't the lap record still held by Mladin? 1:06 or something like that?

Not related, but I'm pretty sure Kevin Schwantz was cutting 1:06-1:07s on the old course back in 87

Ride 'em cowboy! You should try that on a 125. When you hit the curb the bike just goes ballistic; lock to lock, bottomed out, sliding, and trying to spit the rider into the grass. No, I won't be trying that again!!!
