Don't do it ... you will beat your chain all to hell. That is an awful tight
radius for the chain to go around.

Everyone that has done it at SVRider has swapped it back within a month
or so. This last guy that did it actually had damaged and missing rollers on
his chain which made no sense whatsoever.

Chains are more money than sprockets ... go up in the rear instead.

I'm running a 14 tooth on my dirt bike with a regina chain. No problems with rollers here.

hes doing :25s maybe less sometimes, but i rode it for a few laps last weekend and it just seemed to lug. notably out of the bowl. i told him to drop a tooth in the front for a little more drive out of the bowl. besides. its very rare that i see 6th gear. you could probably lower the gearing significantly for NHIS.

my sv is a fuckin dog---sure it's pullin some xtra weight but it brakes up at 9500 rpm istead of 10500-11000 + it lugs out of the bowl like Oxx said + it's slow as shit outta 12 + down the straight!
unfortuneatly I can't afford to build the motor so a $20 sprocket I shall try!

since all you track/race sv guys are here maybe i can ask a semi related question.

Maybe its because i'm still new to the track and a slower rider but entering the bowl i'm dump it to 2nd and find myself having to shift as i'm exiting while leant over. Am i wrong to downshift to 2nd? Or is it indeed from crappy gearing from suzuki?

Sorry to jack your thread.

any idea where its jetted at (im guessing its old enough to be running carbs)? if its breaking up i would think it has more to do with air/fuel than it does not being built or pulling too much weight.

granted everyone else is right, sprockets are a cheap change and could get you where you want to be but im not sure if thats actually fixing the problem. if you're at tonys on the 7th and want to swap bikes for a lap or two thats cool.

i would say third minimum. i bet if you run in to the bowl in 3rd you'll be going through there faster/smoother than you ever have and by the end of the day you'll be testing 4th. dropping into second has got to be the equivelant of pulling the clutch, winding the throttle all the way up, slamming on the rear brake all while shaking the bike as violently as possible. then as an end result you get the upshift through t7. not fun. try third and just relax, it will be better

as PK once told me "just go faster. brake harder and later and get on the gas as soon as possible.the throttle on that should just be an on/off switch. its an SV. if it tries to do something you dont want it to just tell it NO!! and force it"

I do the same with the hawk! I got faster by letting go of the brake earlier. It really worked!

i know i run the bowl in 4th, but i also know as a novice i ran it in 3rd until i saw the light.

duey if you will be there on the 7th. look me up, white sv, yellow plates, #165. on a track day i run yellow or blue group, which ever has the smallest crowd so we can talk off track or if we are in the same group we can go follow the leader.
