Almost did that this season, but I remember someone saying "if you don't see the checkers, ride like they're not out yet, even if you think they are" so I stayed in it.
Stupidest to date?
- Binning in T3 at a TD, thinking I was done sliding and SLAMMING the ground with my hand because I was pissed. Sliding on my back turned into sky, track, sky, track and it cost me a helmet.
- Got into the lead for the first time in my life last weekend and was lost with nobody to hunt. Didn't ride as hard as I should have, wondering when Don would pass me. Did a 1:36 due to a STANDING yellow & ambulance on track flag combo, didn't know what it meant and was confused. Yes, this is the same race.
I'm sure I'll have more as I progress.
All of these stories have taken on entirely new meaning after spending a season racing.

My first race: Apparently I was about to get lapped just at the finish line. I got the white flag, dude just behind me got the checkered but I didn't know it. I ended up 'racing' him to turn 1 and forcing him into the grass. I remember braking for turn 1 and seeing the dude outta the corner of my eye kinda looking at me like, WTF??? Then WHOOSH, off he goes into the grass. I thought something was weird when I got the white and no one was in front of me!
I'd bet Degsy remembers that!
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
The dumbest thing I've ever done at the track is given my wrecked sv650 and credit card number to a vendor while floating around the garages on OXY.
Way too many to count.
-Crashing my 848 at my own trackday.
-Crashing while maintaining a HUGE lead in the rain gunning for my first win.
-Crashing in T3 on cold tires on the warm up lap.
-Crashing 43 minutes into a 45 minute stint in the 3-hour Team Challenge, as the anchor leg.
-Going into T1 at a trackday, seeing Jamie next to me and tried to give him more room. I hit the pothole in old T1 which sent me across the track. I managed to save it but it bent both rims!

-Leaving my bike with a bunch of drunk teammates....
2 wheels:
Stalling on the start.
4 wheels:
Trying to beat a friend who was also racing my car up at Okemo. He had experience and better car handling skills on his side... I had... well... unfound determination. Slid the car into the woods on the drivers door through a ditch. See pic next to name.

Yip! That'd be me - all the same incident! Took me until about turn 9 to realize that I certainly was NOT battling for 1st and just blowing by backmarkers while I was at it. The look on the cornerworkers' collective faces was priceless! I STILL tell that story. It's much better in person!

Went out in the pouring rain on DOTs only to run over my own foot in T4 during an attempted highside. (Did recover and promptly pitted in...)
Sex, T7. Not so much dumb but more so awesome.
havent even been to the track and i just low sided on my way home from work. went into a corner to fast and forgot to lean off the bike . . . ya dumb as shit
Ya know. The more I think about it, the more clearly I remember. I never saw the white. The flagger was approaching the track with the checkered as I was coming down the straight, apparently for the dude that was just about to lap me. Of course, being my first race I just assumed he was getting ready to wave it at me on my way around the next time...

That reminds me:
Go out for warmup lap wayyy late with a last minute slapped-together bike, tires covered in crash debris/dirt, and promptly crash in turn 2. Pick it up, fly through the 3/10, barely make it to grid, and then win the race
I would like that. I would like that very much.

I forget what they call the guy that bitches at you when you come in if you fuck up. For this instance we'll call him "trouble-giver".
"Trouble-giver, please inform rider 617 that if he's going to show up late for his race, crashing in turn 2 on his warmup lap does not help the situation any"

First race weekend this year, first real weekend for me, first weekend with my very shiny and pretty painted bike: Went to tech, rolled out of the tech garage, rolled over a heavy gauge extension cord parallel to it...and fell over at 1MPH. Directly outside the tech garage. Broke the brake lever, bent my rearset bracket. As the cord started rolling under the tire, I thought of how embarrassing it would be to fall over right then and there, put my leg down...and realized it would be even more embarrassing if the bike fell on my leg, so I stepped off.
