So everybody says make the jump from NV to AM as soon as possible. What about going from AM to EX? Give me some opinions.

I would go by times, not index. It may not be any fun until your times are competitive.

i'm contemplating the same thing. I dont want to be racing for last though. I might bump up for the last weekend this year but i'm not sure.
they force you up anyway for the next season if your index is above a .750 right?
I was thinking of doing it but you can't win any gas and tire money running at the back. The only advantage is you will get faster by them dragging you around.
I expect to bump (or be bumped) at the end of the year. I wonder what is safer, AM or EX, or if there's a difference. The skill and experience is higher, but also the intensity seems jacked up.
One thing I know: it will be a long, long climb back to the podium.

yea exactly. I've been watching expert times in the classes I run and its unreal. Yet, running with the big boys is the best way to get faster I suppose.
The problem also is, if people are sandbagging the AM class the people running AM times can't get tire money or gas money. If your times are midpack expert there's no reason you should still be an AM. It makes no sence to stay in a lower class and clean up just because you can't be top three in the higher class. And by 'your' and 'you', I'm mean general terms for racers doing it, not directed at any person.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Without cheater bike it is going to be hard!
what are the qualifications exactly for rookie of the year? you just have to be novice, amateur, and expert in the same year right?
Going to play it weekend by weekend. Granted its only called an Amateur Acheivment Award, I have a good shot at one so we will see what happens one weekend at a time.

I'm a little confused by the debate here, aside from split races arent amatuers and experts on the track at the same time? So basically even if youre an AM you can still be "racing" the experts, and the final results at the media center list you in the order you came in, regardless of level. So is one necessarily safer than the other? Im not trying to stir trouble, but I just dont understand why you would need to jump from AM to EX except for championship points or something.
There are two seperate starts for AM and EX, they are two seperate races. It's not just points involved, it's money, contingency, index, and trophies. The reason to move classes is because your times fit the classes, if you're faster than everyone in your class you aren't racing anymore you're just buying trophies with your entry money.

thats why at the end of the year anyone with above a .750 index is forced to bump up....cuz you're averaging in the top 25% of your class so you're obviously fast enough to go up a class.
There was a racer in AM last year taking no worse then 1st or 2nd in every race that continued to do it every race weekend all year, and he ran 8 or 9 races per weekend. He lost a lot of respect from a lot of people because he didn't move up on his own.

I think i'm going to bump up to expert. Maybe not for this coming weekend, maybe for the next one. Like someone said above it'll make me faster, sooner
I just made a spreadsheet for all the contenders for AM championships in the classes I run and theres pretty much no way of actually getting one, I'm pretty much stuck in 2nd or 3rd for all 4 so I don't even have that to shoot for.
contingency money is nice though.
Ahh ok, so theres an expert wave and a amateur wave. I get it. Being a lowly novice I just tend to see a lot of AMs and EXs mixed in throughout the course of hte race, I just figured they all took off at once or something.
I was just wondering the debate, cause I know personally Id rather lose to the best than constantly beat the AMs, but I didnt know if there was some underlying reason why there would be a question whether to jump or not.
I can understand the cherry picking pissing people off. I figure I will stay another weekend and see what happens. Not like I am running away with race wins or anything. if after next weekend I still have a shot at winning my class for the season I'll stay AM for another weekend. If theres no shot I'll bump up and be happy running with the Experts.

If you ride with the fast guys, you will learn alot more. If you're winning AM races, bump up, you'll thank me in the morning. Besides, amateurs don't exist.........oh wait, that was a different thread![]()
