08 R6 vs. 08 GSXR600

I'm looking at buying/building a new race bike.... and i've narrowed it down to these 2. I like the R6 more than the gsxr, but I've got a better shot at more contingency with the zuki. I'm just kinda thinking out loud here....

The R6 looks like it has a lot more improvements than the gix, but the gix also owned this year overall. I dunno, just thoughts passing through my head haha.

A lot of you guys are better than I am at looking at specs and stuff...what do you think?

Also looking at picking up an 07 bike, and weighing out the advantages of an 08 vs an 07.

Im pretty sure that some manufacturers contingency only runs for like 2 years of a particular model. So you should investigate that, I'm sure more educated people can enlighten further, but its something to think about if youre really looking to get some money.

yea they only pay out for models that are within 2 years...thats why i'm looking at an 08, so i can hang onto it for 2 seasons. if i got an 07 and wanted to chase the $$ i'd have to sell after next year and do it all over again.

i've run some guestimated numbers, and if i picked up a salvage 07 vs a new 08....depending on the damage to the 07 i dont think the cost is all that different because of the stuff i could sell off the new bike (bodywork for instance).

get a red 08 R6 - i know a buyer for the plastics

cant go wrong with either bike, but it seems like there are more zuki parts out there (more people buying them)

Yellow with flames, you say? Wow. What will they think of next.

One item you might keep in mind is the weak/vulnerable fuel tank issue with the R6. Unless they changed the tank . . .

I would think like you say the difference between a "new" salvage and a new bike would be pretty minimal, assuming you can even find a new salvage. Plus for your level of racing youd probably have to verify the straightness and all that sort of thing.

thats my other concern. it might end up costing me as much or more depending on what i pay for a salvage bike. I'm pretty set on buying an 08 and not having the hassle of fixing up a salvage bike I'd have to sell after 1 season.

Theres an article in the most recent Roadracing World I think about that, and a number of companies coming out with guards or sliders for the tank for like 100 bucks. So at least theres options and that can be one of the least of your concerns.

spec wise, i don't think there's much difference between the suzuki and the yamaha. i do know the 08 R6 increased the compression ratio slightly and its slightly heavier, but no major differences when I was doing my homework when comparing the R6 to the GSXR600... course that was the 07 models, but the position I have to be on the R6 is different than the GSXR so that was what made the final decision for me (course I know racing stances are slightly different and vary person to person) but as far as performance went there wasn't much diff)... my .02

The R6 is a better package overall. Granted Suzuki pays better, but there is talk that Yamaha may be adding more weekends. That is not confirmed, but it has been the subject of talks with the higher ups.

that was my thought. After looking it over I like the R6 the best for sure as far as the bike itself goes, but they have a crappy payout compared to suzuki and kawi. That'd be awesome if yamaha added a few more weekends to their schedule. I've got a lot of work to do before I actually get paid, but it'd be fun to chase and nice to get it if I manage to finish well enough.

If had a vote, Id go green, just cause green is the fastest color. Which is why my EX is going green over the winter.
