Interesting - R6 Blow Up Much?

Sorry if its a repost: (I know everyone knows about the blowing up already though)

WERA has officially announced that tank sliders for 06+ R6's are mandatory. You won't pass tech inspection without them.

Could this come to Loudon?

Theres an article in the last roadracing world I got about this issue. And theres at least 3 different companies making sliders at that point. I dont know if they all went into production or what, but its a good spread including a photo by Bud Durgin.

I personally think that those should be required for racers at Loudon. It is a safety thing and we already saw one R6 blow up early in this past season. Seems kind of dumb that you would risk losing your whole bike to fire rather than just a few scuffs in the event of a crash just because they aren't all that pretty.

Thanks.. Was wondering what they would look like. Price seems a bit steep for sliders, but then if thats all you got it alot cheaper than the alternative.

That's what should happen to all Yamaha's when they go dwon. Pof into flames. Never happen to a Honda that's for sure.

(ummm...in the green leathers, not the red ones )

It was quite a shock to come up over the hill and see that bike burst into flames.

I've been looking at getting some of those tank sliders for a little while now.

The problem is, I don't know if I can justify giving traxxion 130 or so dollars for two chunks of ABS plastic... what a fuckin' ripoff.

I'm not saying a bike is cheaper... obviously the tank sliders are a good idea and can save your bike. But why the fuck are they 130 bucks? They're just two chunks of plastic. Probably cost about 20 bucks to make a set including the material, labor, and the yamaha sticky emblems. Fuck that.

i know, i should have started with a turbo stretched busa with NOS.

in all honesty, I've seen people get carbon fiber tanks for their GSX-R's on eBay. Think they make them for the R6, and would that help the exploding problem?

It would... probably mad cash though.

There is a company that makes carbon/kevlar composite race tanks I think... those not only wouldn't blow up, but usually don't even rupture since they are so much more abrasion resistant. Also, they're a lot lighter.

I think they are big bank, however.

While you're fixing the corners, you can stomp the top for sweet highchairs.

The price of these things is governed by:
  • Research & Development costs
  • They are race parts

Look at the price of any race-specific parts.

Brought my wife to the LRRS event where the R6 blew up. It ws her first time to the track, and she wanted to check it out before my first track day coming in a few weeks.

First crash she sees ends in a ball of flame on top of the hill.
