Anyone got the hook up?

Rulebook?

What series runs at NHIS?

You know a Hawk can run vintage right?

If they'd let me run my 70 with the two XR100s I'd race vintage.

I looked at USCRA's rulebook. The Hawk doesn't qualify.

No, the USCRA isn't like WERA or CCS, where they have classes for recently obsolete bikes. Newest bikes you can run in their normal classes is about 1985. We do have several classes for newer bikes. There's 125 GP, "Screamin 50's" (Heath Smith's Rieju pit bike would fit right in, there's a whole mess of them that were sold by Cosmo Joe, ready to race, for $1,200.00. Note #43 in left background of first picture.) and out newest class, a revival of the AMA's HD Twinsports class. As a matter of fact, this old Harley that Bruce Lyskawa used to race in the AMA nationals was pulled out of mothballs to race.
I'm the Hot Grid Marshal, the Starter if Cindy doesn't show up. We run a nice friendly show, I haven't called a jump start in 11 years, nobody ever really knows their grid position, but who cares? Bring a $20 bill with you to the grid and I'll put you on pole!

I think the only person you might know from LRRS there would be Heather from Pre-Grid. She runs a side hack with her Dad. Oh, and Peter Kates was a monkey a long time ago.

So what do you suggest as a good starter? One of the 1985 bikes or a CB360? Suggestions Johnny?

Might need to look at a "cheaper" form of racing in the future if/when my wife gets pregnant.

every time we had the buell at the track on a weekend where there was vintage racers around one of them would inevitabley find us and try to convince us to run the buell in with thier sportsters... though the buell wasn't vintage they said it was legal. never really bothered to look into it.

Racing with USCRA is fun, and may be a better fit for many LRRS guys, but they never check it out...

I'd say whatever you can find cheap and in reasonable shape would be a good machine to start on.

After owning a V65 Sabre, I always wanted to try flogging a V30 Interceptor.

Nix on the V4's, but there's a Formula CB350 class. Something for Ring Dings, too. Bob seems to be holding the line at twin shock air cooled stuff.

I'd like to hear what the vintage people think of the mini's that Kurlon and I have been riding. As I read the rules we nearly have legal GP200 bikes. The bikes John Branson has linked from that site you posted are nearly what we have. (one is a poorboy class motor w/custom frame and moped wheels, the other a stretched CB175.)

I actually asked the USCRA about this a few months ago, and was told that wasn't a direction they wanted to go. The rumor I've heard is the two gentlemen running XR100s as a 'fun' class may get the boot in 08 also. As much as I want to find a way to run at Loudon on the mini, I think the best I'm going to achieve for now is the occasional track day with Fishtail. Who knows, maybe getting out there on the GS will scratch that itch completely?

That said, I had a ton of vintage racers asking about my bike on the last race day. Our style motor is used by more than one racer, so seeing one tossing down 15hp+ got their attention. If it had been jetted properly it would have made a better showing.

They don't allow Hawks in vintage yet. Another 2 or 3 years though and the Hawks will rule the vintage class!

I just re-read the rules, GP200 has age brackets. No chance in hell of convincing them that the X4's frame is a modern reproduction of a 60's machine. : )

How about if I put my Pitster engine in a featherbed frame? I have a MIG welder.
