need help with classes

i dont qualify for any production classes...

and since production twins is the only class exempt from the catch pan rule, i'll need to mount one correct?

what classes does that leave me with to get out and gain some good experience for a year or so? I'm not necessarily expecting to win... bike is an 04 GS500 and qualifies engine-wise for the classes below.

CCS:
GTO
GTU
GTL
Lightweight Grand Prix
Middleweight Grand Prix
Super Twins

LRRS:

nuthin...

what can anyone suggest or tell me about these classes? what do you think would be a good fit to start, and what should I avoid and/or might be dangerous on a 46hp bike?

What makes you exempt? Arent you essentially on the same thing as an EX?
Cause I run GTL, PTwins and LWSportsman on my EX. Plus, if youre a novice I dont think youre gonna run into much resistance as to people DQing you. The majority of DQs I see at least is SVs and motards running in PTwins.

i have an aftermarket exhaust, ZX-7 front end, and removed the airbox for pod filters. so pretty much if one person says anything i'll be DQ'd no contest...

Did your bike originally come from the factory with a belly pan?
I don't think it did. You're all set.
Hawks did not come with fairings or a pan and I have not run into any issues at LRRS. Other sanctioning bodies will want them.

you're good.

I saw your pony yesterday at Pete's. That's a nasty front end you got. Which now you can only race in ULSB spec class.

I told you!

Don't sweat it in novice. I ran the Hawk in LWSM and LWSS without any questions, alog with ULSB, you should be all set running those. If your brave you can do a crash fest (GTL)

Stay outta thunderbikes.

If you are winning in those classes on a bike that is not legal you "may" get spoken to.

You might want to start looking for a competative bike after next year.

Where did you get the idea that a GS500 is throwing down 46hp to the rear wheel? All my research shows them to be solid 39hp beasts. : )

And you won't be the only GS500 out there, so no worries there.

Everyone always craps on the GTL, I love it of course theres always a red flag, but whatever, its more racing than otherwise. The only time I get a little worried is a few laps into the race when the 600s start coming up my ass, and even then the only time I worry more than usual is the last 1/3 of the straight or so. On the straight I usually give a little more room between me and wall than usual and I pay extra attention to stay on a straight line so the 600s can blow by me and know where I am, other than that, its just a normal race.

pod filters, full exhaust, & rejet brings me around 46 hp. and also 2 of the 3 reasons I dont qualify for production classes.

Ever have it dynod? Now you've got me curious.

If you still don't crack 50hp with that setup, I say petition the EX Mafia to let you into PTwins for your first year.

Whatever dude, you're in Novice. No one should care. Run PTwins, GTL, ULSB and LWSM (unless ULSB and LWSM are run at the same time still) until you get kicked out.

Just be aware that once you bump to AM you'll need something different.

EDIT: funny thing is, if you get an EX you could run these same classes, be more competitive & still be legal.

Ditto, this is the same advice I was given last year.
