Ducati HELP!I am hoping some of you Ducati racers can help me out. I just swapped motors in my racebike. I had an old 795 in there that had 3 seasons on it and was in need of a rebuild ($2500) so instead I got an 800. ![]() I was going to make the Fuel injected 800 motor into a carbed one with help from Bruce but Ryan talked me itno keeping it Fuel injected. The problem is I know NOTHING about fuel injection and what can and cannot be done to the bike. My questions start here. Can I run pods instead of an airbox (the box doesn't fit in my modded frame)? Do I need a fuel pump or can I gravity feed? If I need a pump will an aftermarket one work (as long as it pumps the same amount of gas)? What wiring is needed to make the bike go? What wiring is not? (I have a stock FI wiring harness, I just want to simplify it) What gearing are you guys with 800's running? That is it for now. I am sure I will have more question soon. Is there a good Ducati racing forum? |

Re: Ducati HELP!Yes, you'll need a fuel pump, a FI specific one actually, FI needs a pressurized fuel supply to work. You can run pod filters, but expect a loss of midrange vs a proper airbox setup. Re-mapping can help a bit, but there is no replacement for a well tuned airbox for midrange. (Get a PC3 ASAP btw, the stock mapping will be way off with pod filters and your old SS's exhaust.) You'll want the entire harness from the FI bike, dunno what other than lighting stubs can be removed. You'll also need the keys, antenna and instrument cluster as well, or the ECU won't allow the bike to fire up. Realistically speaking, without swapping in an aftermarket EFI controller, you'd have an easier time converting back to carb operation. |
