Thank you Turn-1a crew and friends

I'd like to thank Gino, Chris, Ryan, and the others whose names I can't remember at the moment, you all rock. Between the advice, help with stands, etc, and how you just accepted Seth and I in, we both felt like we were right at home, part of a dysfunctional family the court is still trying to separate for the common good...

I also greatly appreciate coming back from the hospital to find my bike on a stand, and every thing else dealt with. Thank you.

Big thanks to the corner workers in T2 and the medical staff as well.

Looks like I'm out of commission for a couple months, but I'm going to try and make it to the track to help out in the pits if I can.

I lowsided in 2, smacked my left hand down pretty hard busting my inner two fingers. My glove failed, both fingers got ripped open to the bone. Ryan has a pic of my hand post Loudon medical's cleanup, prior to my getting fitted with 'the club' splinting my whole hand.

Re: Thank you Turn-1a crew and friends

Olympia. I didn't go out on my much better armored and built Joe Rocket Speedmasters as I figured the ventilation and rain would cause my fingers to shut off before I made a complete lap. (The veins in my hands overreact to cold.)

In hind sight, I think what happened is my hand got caught between the bar and the ground, my clutch lever is a folding unit so I'm guessing it just flipped out of the way. I'm basing this on the fact that the bike quickly slid away from me, but I also managed to somehow take the clutch side grip clean off. I also remember having both hands up as I slid on my back protector.

Yeah, from talking with a couple others it looks like it was just the nature of the crash that did my hand in, not the gloves. I guess I need to work on my 'abandon ship' reflexes to let go of the bars sooner, or rig handgaurds for the clipons.

I did it Sunday in practice after it was declared an 'all skate' session. I survived my rookie race ok, and got to run LW-SPM Saturday.

I'm an ass, i helped get you off the track. didn't relie it was you until after you got on the meat wagon. I thought it was an sv until we went to get it off the track. But in my own defence i only net you one time. your grip was pulled off and stuck in your plastic when you crashed.

If I try wearing it on the inside, under the leathers the shoulder buckles very quickly bruise up my shoulders. Plus I slide further on my back in the wet with it, weeee!

No worries, I'll be back soon enough so we can be re-introduced sans ambulance crew. : )

And Craig, I plan to be back on minis as soon as possible, I get inspected by an orthopedic specialist today to find out how long I'm stuck playing pit bitch instead of riding.

Ouch, That's a harsh intro to the world of big bike racing (If the GS can be called that!) Anyway, you've got a good attitude. Heal up soon.

I know you are half joking, but sliding a shorter distance/being slowed down by the leathers is a really good thing.

Agreed, I plan on investing in a set of impact armor and a better back protector.

Re: Thank you Turn-1a crew and friends

Glad I could have helped out in any way. Its fun having new blood around. It makes me never forget what I had to go thru. Oh the torture

I wish things ended up better. I know you were anxious to get out there and have some fun. If I had known or seen that you were going out with those gloves I would have stopped you. Sorry I did not notice it.

Re: Thank you Turn-1a crew and friends

Welp, got good news and bad news after the orthopedic visit.

The good news is I should have use of my hand in 6 to 8 weeks, so I'll be riding by the end of the season.

The bad, there was far more damage than the initial estimate. I broke two fingers, one of which may have to be shortened. I have multiple splits in one thumb joint, so it needs to be immobilized and pinned. I go in on Thursday for surgery to deal with my finger and thumb. I also fractured two metacarpals in my wrist, but they should heal on their own while my hand is immobilized.

Two to three months of playing 'pit boy' shouldn't be too bad, and I can resell my prescriptions to finance my own private track day! (Of all the problems my hand injuries are causing, its the pain killers I dread the most.)
