Re: Gman

Well put, Degs. I couldn't agree more.

It seems as though everyone has their own version of what happened but never the less, this kinda thing happens in racing, it's just the nature of the sport. The "slower rider" feels absolutely AWFUL about it even though it wasn't HIS fault.

Our time, energy & thoughts should be focused on Gerard's recovery. I wish he & his family the best and I hope to see him soon.

ATTENTION IN THE HADDOCK! - Auction For G-Man

We are gearing up for an auction to benefit Gerard Schifino. Further details will be announced during the riders meeting at the May event.
Update:It has been brought to our attention that several high rollers will not make the June event, so while we are receiving further feedback on this, the date will not be announced until later.
Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Gman

I was sitting in the Gnome Hospitality Center and the incident happened right in front of me. I was busy filling out paperwork, so by the time I looked up, Gerard was already down. I got a call last night asking what happened, and they didn't seem to understand, "I don't know." I didn't see it, and I'm not about to repeat what somebody else said, especially with conflicting stories.
Let's worry about G-Man, speculating who's fault it was doesn't make him any better.
Also, because of the HIPAA law, information on the extent of a rider's injuries if they are very serious is usually kept to themselves by the medical staff working on the rider. You won't hear any discussion on your scanners and I'm not in the loop either, so I don't know what their condition is. So again, if somebody comes up to me on Pit Row and asks me how the rider is, I usually don't know.

Latest From NEAR List

Spoke with Cristina. She is one level-headed chick. Little G and
Christopher have been shuffled around a bit, but are home and happy and
taken care of.

Here is a brief update on Gerard:

Still at Concord, out of ICU and in regular room. Cris says it’s been a
really good place to be; everyone is amazed with his progress. His
spirits are good, talking about maybe racing dirt, blah blah blah yadda
yadda.

Waiting for chest tube to be removed before he can be transferred to Rhode
Island. Tube was in because there was a small puncture in lung, with
collapse. It was in not primarily because he was doing badly wrt
breathing (or whatever chest tubes are for), but rather because he was to
have neck surgery, as a precaution to his overall health and function.
Might remove tube Wednesday, depending on whether lung is healed
sufficiently.

Will follow up with clavicle, scapula, humerus at local hospital.

I forgot to ask if he had feeling back in the other arm.

We should do a benefit. Let’s go you planners extraordinaire, let’s make
it happen. I don’t think it should be May. June - at the earliest - to
get full benefit of all schwag and personnel that could possibly be
available. I'm not very good at this stuff, but I will help in any way I
can.

How can a slower rider, being passed by a faster rider "fixate' on the faster rider and hit his rear wheel. I know the rider who's bike Gerard hit and he's pretty cut up about it. It doesn't need to be made worse by stupid statements like that. The faster rider (Miles I guess) is to blame if anyone. He is the passer and it's HIS responsiblity to get around the slower rider in front. Hey, ya put amateur ex500s in the same race as Expert Duc 800s, whaddya expect?

My thoughts are with Gerard, Christina and the kids. Here's a blast from the past.
We need vests............plain and simple.

As racers we need to place blame on no one but us. We know the risks each start of the bike bring. It just sucks when it's one of our own.

Heal up Gman.

You mean like a "Hey I am an Amatuer don't run me over" kinda thing?

I would wear one! Hell even a big ass sticker on the back of your helmet or something!

Maybe we should just start wearing them of our own accord...

Re: Gman

Vests are not a Bad idea, The are used in other racing organizations. However Those organizations do not have a Novice class And the vests are worn only for your first 5 races. i think LRRS is the only CCS region that has a novice class.

My second weekend as a novice I raced in Homestead And got lapped on the Last lap By Scott greenwood being Chased By Greg Melka. that in itself Drilled in the Smooth and predictable Mantra I learned in the penguin.

I still thing the Am GTL split is a Good idea because every small AM/EX bike at loudon is on the track for the GTL.

Blame is Not going to help Gman. Lets drum up Some $ for him. and his family.

DOC Start the Fund,

Maybe we could sell some are our uneeded gear for him.

along those lines i've got a brand new pair of technic gloves i'll pitch-in. they're XL, kangaroo skin. identical to the ones i race w/ (and have crashed on more than a few times now) - they've held up very well.

Re: Gman

Just a heads up - I'm sure there'll be ten-hundred-and-eighty-teen things going on in the near future that'll be aimed at helping G-Spot & crew out. We ARE considering having NESR also spearhead it's own fundraising efforts for them. I just wanted to let all concerned know before-hand...

Any objection to starting A Post in the for sale section with some stuff we post that all proceeds will go to the NESR G man fund.

He was pitting next to the Zip tie garage and I felt bad looking at his bike all weekend.

Re: Gman

I haven't met Gerrard yet, but everyone seems to genuinely like him, and from what people were saying about the crash, it sounded nasty. Any fellow rider who is a standup guy like he sounds to be is already a friend in my book.

Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery to get back on two.

In the USCRA, they just tell the noobs that if they feel the need to, make an "X" on the back of their leathers with duct tape to warn the others. We have no rider classes in USCRA. Neither does WERA Vintage.

getting a lil off topic....but don't they do that for super slow riders in penguin anyway? I seem to remember seeing some guys with duct tape X's on their backs as warnings...
