Re: April 08 ULSB Gino race weekend

Hey Gino, I joked about that super duper crank, but in reality, even if your bike gained 5HP, it still doesn't account for a 2+ second drop in laptimes.

I know from looking at data acquisition that it represents subtle but significant changes in technique in each corner to acheive that kind of improvement. Any thoughts on what you where doing different compared to last year?

I know Paul... It was pretty much just the crank and 1mm + intake valve from last year. I agree not enough to drop my time that much. This has been my plan when I started racing. A little bit each year.

I pretty much kept to my point’s through the track and the bike did not feel that much different than last year. Although with the adjustable 2mm offset on the front and the longer rear shock and 300# heavier spring I was able to feel the rear suspension working much better. With this I was able to feel how I was applying the power to the rear and with this feeling I was able to quicken my throttle on response without a slip. (All except for the oil.) That is a nice feeling. I feel that there is more to be had. Just have to get used to the whole new suspension and getting things dialed in.

I was also trying to figure out the new (To me) Bridgestone’s.

BTW PK helped with the suspension.

There's no way to drop time like that by hitting your old marks. Rolling on the throttle at the same spot, but quicker is only worth a few tenths, assuming you weren't riding around at part throttle before.

Something else had to change.

Video of race there. Highlights

- Scott and Gene featured
- Gene's Lap 1 Start 1 pass on Dube in 3
- Tony's bike blowing up in 3
- Gene's crash in 3
- Gene's Lap 1 Start 2 pass on Jurgen
- Gene going like 100mph every lap
- Scott leading the field.

NICE
- Pete bringing up the rear

THANK GOD I wasn't behind Tony when his engine blew.
Although, if I was, and I managed to stay up... I definitely woulda stopped at a cornerworker station to tell em that the track just got oiled. I'm glad no one was hurt.

Do you really think I am going to give up my highly regarded secrete. Not that I have one.

Maybe it was the valve that was spanking the piston. or the lack of proper rebound dampening or the brake crushing my hand when I was braking an throttling in T9 or the moon in solaris to Jupiter.

I did notice nasty head shakes over T5 and T7, the grass coming out of T10 on the left is much closer because of the headshake caused by the sink hole (I think it is time for a steering dampener), the rev limiter into T6, a higher line in T1a. I have noticed the increased speed through the track.

I really can not explain what I did differently from that last least year to this year. Only engine and suspension.
