grip straps

on tuesday when loading up someone had mentioned getting those things that go around your grips to keep the straps off my farings when strapping the front of the bike down. i can't remember what they're called...

is there any reason NOT to get them? i just remember strapping the throttle tube is a big no-no, but i'm not sure if these adapter things will screw anything up...

Re: grip straps

I use the extender loops... soft-ties.

Basically just a short section of tie-down with a loop at each end.

Re: grip straps

Canyon dancers work good. Don't tighten it down too hard or you face breaking a clip on like I did. A strapless support stand, or a pit-bull trailer restraint use No straps.

Re: grip straps

Cycle cynch work far better than canyon dancer. They dont twist your grips up and put enev pressure on your bars. I used canyon dancers for two seasons and switched.
If you still want the canyon dancer I have two that I wont use.

Re: grip straps

I agree with arcy, canyon dancer can twist the crap outt your grips and throttle... definately no good for those carb'd bikes. Anyway, soft straps that tony was talking about are the way to go, but i keep them away from the clip-ons... you can go to the upper or lower triple clamp.

Re: grip straps

How is cycle cinch different from Canyon Dancers? It seems to be the same premise and idea to me.

Re: grip straps

Cayon Dancers also have a nasty habit of busting set pins on the controls of Ducatis and some other brands. I prefer soft ties around the lower clamp.

Re: grip straps

I have a condor pit stop roll in chock and use one tiedown to each passenger peg bracket down the bed. That's it. It works like a charm and puts no undue pressure on the suspension. allowing the forks to cushion the bike while towing. I used it all the way across through the windy bumpy roads in VT and NH and no problem. I use this stand with my wing and tie it down the same way, only I add 2 straps off the back just to help stabilize 900lbs!
PM me if you interested in the Condor.
I also use it for all my garage maitenence, just roll the front or back tire in and go to work, no straps at all. It also makes easy single person loading. roll it into the chock and let go...bike stays upright (even the wing)

Re: grip straps

the cycle cinch is a nice product. the difference between it anxd the dancer is that the cross strap between the bars on the cinch is not stressed....its just holding the parts together. this prevgents the typical negative twisting u get with a dancer.

the cinch is basically two really wide soft ties held together with a strap thus it will not rotate the grips. u can also buy them with straps already attached to make it simpler.

regarding the condor stand which I use as well it really needs straps from the front in my opinion. I would not trailer my bike in one of those without compressing the forks. just my opinion.

I agree with that thought. I am the most anal tie down guy you've ever met. I've always been the guy everyone is waiting for while I put on just one more strap. However after working with the product at shows and getting to know the manufacturers, I decided to try hauling my cbr with 2 straps. They hook to the front p/u bed tie downs, run through the rear sets, and down to the floor of the bed just ahead of the rear sets. I didn't do this for the first time in an enclosed trailer (just incase) When you strap it down this way it does compress the forks slightly, but doesn't put near the strain that traditional straping does. I also did it in the bed of my truck so I could watch it like a hawk. It bounced and stopped just like it does when I'm riding it. I was very impressed. I hit some pretty windy bumpy roads through Vt and NH and it never budged side to side.
