New Michelin's are released for 2008As we had suspected, the new generation of Michelin Power Race has now been released. We had them at the first event at LRRS last week and they are now available nationwide. We had been told that the name would be Power One, but they kept the name Power Race for now. But instead of the PR1-PR5, we now the letters C, D and E. The new front is still called Power Race PR-C. This tire looks just like the old tire, but check the DOT date. If you have a PR-C with a DOT date of 3707 or newer it is the new front tire. It is an entirely new construction drawing heavily from MotoGP technology. Every report we get says it's the best front they have ever made. It is only available in 120/70-17 and only in one 2CT compound. The rears now go by D or E identification. The D rear is a soft compound rear. The E rear is a medium compound rear. There is no true medium/soft as they are both a broad temp range tire. Both are available in 180/55-17 and 190/55-17. There is no 190/50-17 in these compounds. The rest of the standard Power Race lines stays the same for general sale. The PRC,D, and E are only available from Michelin race vender's. Michelin has three new compounds in the new 19/69-17 series of slicks. Soft, medium soft and medium. The rim width needed for these tires is 6.25". This tire size is a completely new design, since the old series was 19/67-17. Michelin has a new front slick - the 1270. This is a soft compound front very similar to the very good 1246A, but it has a stiffer casing. As for the PR2, PR3, PR4 and PR5 series, these are being fazed out and no longer in production. Track prices for the PR-C front and a D or E rear is $400.00 Track prices for a PR-C front and a PR3, PR4 or PR5 is $360.00. Track prices for all Michelin slicks including SMR's is $400.00 If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. Thanks! Dave - Motorace |

Re: New Michelin's are released for 2008With the new Dunlop's out, it was not a difficult decision to get these out there. To put it into perspective, these DOT's were not even at Daytona. This was how fast Michelin put them into production in France and then flew them over here. Denno - you should have the new front. All of our race stock in PR-C is the new front since Jennings bought all of my older stock last fall. And with the PR3, PR4 and PR5 going away, I sense a SALE coming..... ![]() |

It does work better and last longer than a PR4 IF the same rider is using it on the same bike. |

Every company blows their own horn about how great their stuff is. I definitely want to try these out to see if they live up to the praise |

Re: New Michelin's are released for 2008Nah Denno not going with slicks yet, it's the power race medium compound or maybe the pr5's. I'll get the slicks when I'm riding at "DENNOS" pace. |

The people we talk to from other tracks are very honest. We learn very quickly what works and what does not, in spite of the propaganda we hear from the company. It is in our best interest to put you on the best tire in the correct situation. These tires have won a ton of praise from both support people and riders. Michelin is not big here at LRRS, but there are regions in which it is almost all Michelin - look at Texas. And these tires have already won against the new Dunlop. |
