All this talk about gear...

What are your thoughts on this? Happened last season. Guy went down in six. His bike was sliding off the track, when all of a sudden it caught a peg and threw itself back in the race line. Naturally, I collided with it. On impact, my legs went up and over forcing my body to do a front flip over the windscreen. With all the momentum I had, my foot landed on the other bikes foot peg, driving it right through my boot.

Now were the scary part. "Somehow", the peg drove right up the outside of my achilles tendon, leaving me without a scratch! When the corner workers came to help us out, they picked up the other guys bike and started dragging me with it. I'll never forget the look on the medics face. They didn't know what to do. I told them to pull it off, which they did. Then I told her to take my boot off and she was like "hell no". She finally obliged and took it off and couldn't believe what just transpired. Knock on wood, I was lucky.

What do you think... did the boots do their job? Think Alpinestars will give me a replacement? I think it makes a great conversation piece in Sport Rider.

you're still talking about this boot!?!? haha... they DIDN't do their job, letting anything penetrate the boot (and almost your foot) is not a job well done. You may be able to get a free pair out of them though, I used to get free Alpinestar MX boots when they fell apart pre-maturely.

What boots are you using this year?

P.S. Isn't your achilles tendon in the back of your ankle?

P.P.s Let me know if you want any spares, I'm parting out an '06

Looks like it did a job to me... What if you would have had a lesser boot on?

If you had a kevlar vest on, and the bullet went through it, but missed your heart by an inch, would you call that "working"?

alpinestars will prob give him a replacemen based on it not working, not because they want a boot with a hole in it to advertise with.

Just saying you can't build a functional boot that is gonna protect your from everything.

Looks like it had ground down some in that area. and wore through the boot.

Yup, boot did it's job. It protected it's wearer from a extreme injury and died a honourable death in the process.

If this was a helmet and the chinbar cracked straight thru after your face pile-drived the pavement (leaving you fine however) Would you be complaining?

That looks like the Supertech R. Great boot!

Sidi Corsa

I went down last week with mine and still have "turf toe" and nasty bruise just where the top of the boot was, none are perfect

Boot did its job according to the design model...which most likely did NOT include this kind of penetration. I believe these boots are designed to protect the rider from torque and twisting from a tumble...and not penetration from sharp objects.

There is no substitute for good luck...!

I've got the SMX + as well.

I've had my foot run over as I was crashing.

I've had my foot slide off in front of the peg coming out of T12 and drover over my foot while the 3/16" steel shifter bent back on my achilles.

i was wearing A* SMXs when i crushed my own foot with a sliding buell. it did little to prevent any of the crushing injurys on my foot but it did prevent alot of other damage as well, especially to the ankle. docs said if it wasn't for the boot i probably would have lost the front of my foot and all the toes.

good gear doesn't make us invincible but it sure as hell helps.
