interested in super mini moto

Hey Guys! I have been mostly browsing the site since I joined last year.. I have been riding lots but now after reading a little bit about the super mini moto/pit bike racing.. I want to get involved!

Kitt referred me to you guys to ask around.. so how do I get started? I'm from Western, MA (live in springfield).. I know that Mototown is closed for the season.. so from there on I don't know where else would have these races/practices.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I guess first things first also is that I need a bike! what do I get?!

thanks so much!!

-Tiff

Re: interested in super mini moto

This sunday there is going to be racing at 106 Race Park, a few miles away from NHMS/NHIS. If you've got some time, head over and check it out. You'll be able to see a large variety of machines, talk to riders, and watch them throw down on a nice technical road course.

Evil Empire Racing

Once you sniff/sit on/hump a couple machines you'll have a better idea of what you'll want and how much it'll cost to get there.

Normally I'd be all over that... but given it took me two hours to pull a stator plate out one handed... I'm betting I'm not the right wrench for the job.

But I am curious now, what's the carb issue, and where's the leak?

Re: interested in super mini moto

My wife wants to start mini bike racing. Thanks for posting that link. I had trouble finding it last week.

I was going to lace up a 12" wheelset for my TTR125L, but she says that she would like something smaller. I needed to get a CRF50 or TTR50 for my daughter anyway, maybe that will work out well for my wife as well (she is only 4'11" and 90lbs).

Re: interested in super mini moto

The owner of 106 Race Park has restricted the track to open cradle framed bikes only to keep the size down. It's a fairly tight track so anything bigger than a KLX110 would be struggling to make some of the turns in one manuver anyways.

Re: interested in super mini moto

Two smokes are out for 106 as well, so I suggest a 'midsize' mini to get stared. Something like a KLX 110 or CRF70. They're a bit more usable out of the crate than a 50, and can be had used for cheap. The alternate option would be an import pitbike, of which there are 57 bazillion options.

Re: interested in super mini moto

i kind of want to buy a 50.. would that be pointless and stupid of me to do so? I'm barely 5'5 and am about 110lbs. i could fit... right? but if my fat ass doesn't fit on it then forget it haha

Those [Pitster 90s] are a good machine, the stroker 86cc powerplant is a great mill. At yours size, a 50 with taller bars shouldn't be a problem either.

I used to be in a gang. We all rode 50s. Now, I am small in stature, but some of my gangmates (homies, if you will) were upwards of 6'3'' and pushing 280 lbs. (i.e. - Big MoFos). In other words, you can fit on a 50. You just have to WANT to fit on a 50. Follow my step-by-step instructions:
  1. Buy the 50
  2. Do the mods
  3. Merriment ensues
