Power Commander mapping

So I called Dynojet... No help with any maps for the 800ss.

I am assuming a good start point is to us the 800ssie Monster OR the S2R maps. The S2R I am thinking would be a closer match.

I also have a custom map from ARC Fabrication that I pulled off the web.

I am getting a crash course in ECU tuning...

Rob's Dyno won't be at the track and all the Dyno's near me don't do any tuning.

Any ideas?

Re: Power Commander mapping

Doc,
Start with the off the shelf map for your bike and
similar exhaust. That will get you 90% there.

The last 10% is the work of an artist.
It takes time and care. If someone knows a good tuner
let me know.

I've had my PC3 tuned by Seacoast and they did
terrible job. It was worse than stock.

I traded maps with someone having the same bike and
exhaust. His being made custom and its really spot on.

Loading maps is easy as pie...

Creating custom maps (as in a one-off map created specifically for your bike) is a matter of tallent and artistry.

Re: Power Commander mapping

Doc, I'll see if I can get my friend's S2R map, it's an 800 with pod filters breathing through a pair of arrows. Won't be perfect, but should be in the ballpark. If you can't find a local dyno, make an appointment with Moto Milano in Windham for a full map, and enjoy a day up in Maine. : )

Re: Power Commander mapping

Doc...

Contact the manufacturer of the exhaust on your bike. They will most likely be able to provide you with a map that they created for your bike/exhaust combination.

Re: Power Commander mapping

The manufacturer is ARC Fabrication. He is hard to get ahold of. I have a screenshot of a map for another of his systems. I am hoping I can just plug in some numbers and input that custom map.

I am not familiar with mapping. Is it plug and play? Like upload a file and your done or do you have to input numbers for every RPM and sensor?

Re: Power Commander mapping

If you're using someone else's map, you just upload the file via Dynojet's software to the PC3 and you're done. To custom map by hand, you have to tweak individual cells, it's alot like working on a large spreadsheet.

On the left you have throttle positions, 0 through 100%, with finer steps at smaller throttle openings. Across the bottom you have rev points in 250 rev steps. Line up the throttle position and rev, that cell is where you add or remove fuel in comparison to the on board 'stock map' in the PC3.

Re: Power Commander mapping

it's fairly easy, so as long as you're patient, tweak a little then ride it and see how it feel, then change again...

call bcm. I have seen quite a few arc exhausts on bikes there. They may know someone with a custom map.

Re: Power Commander mapping

If you mean how to actually upload a map to your bike once you
have one: yes its easy. Get a laptop and USB cable.

Use the software that Dynojet has on their website:
Power Commander General Downloads

Then just connect the laptop to your Power Commander, and
have the bike turned on. The Software has an interface that
lets your either download the existing map on the bike
or upload and over write map on the bike.
It also has a feature that can compare maps so that you can
see where particular maps are different.
All the maps are, are tables with + and - figures in them
representing air / fuel mix based on RPM and Throttle Opening.

+1 He did my 749 and RSVR and both were right on. There was a night and day difference with the Ducati.

How much do these people charge? I'd like to get tuned after I work out some other kinks.

Figure two to four hours of labor at the least for a full map.

Re: Power Commander mapping

Hey Doc,

Give the guys down at Dentsport a call. They have an AWD dyno in house and have experience with Power Commanders not to mention tuning.

They're in Norwood, Ma.
