The best scenario would be for a new road course to be built...

+1 It would take a new course. Matt Mladdin was once quoted as saying " that they just need to change that one area, the one where the track is". Its not an AMA course. With Valley Motorsports park coming I would think that will cut into NHIS revenues. They have to sink or swim.

I was reading the article thinking the exact same thing... If Mr. Smith really wants Loudon back to it's former glory, then some money is going to need to be spent on the track and facilities...

If you are following what is going on in AMA pro racing you would know that Mladin and Suzuki won't be back next year!

That story is still being written...however, SPIES will certainly be in Europe next year!

Re: AMA Racers to Return to Loudon????

Interesting article. I never knee a lot of that stuff.

To bitch about Loudon's current layout is I guess understandable as far as the walls and such... there really is no way to 'fix' the track.

A new road course... the thought of that (two courses at one track only two hours-ish away from me) gives me a stiffy

Too bad if they DO build a new road course I would bet they would put stands for the nascar over the hill and the course as we know it now would cease to exist.

That's a good point... lots of valuable seating space along the back straight is lost for 'us'... it is such a tight, technical, and unique track... it would be a shame to lose it.

But if the replacement were to be new, smooth, and pretty... well, oh darn

Re: AMA Racers to Return to Loudon????

I just find it hard to believe that they'd keep 2 road courses for motorcycles, so assuming they DO build a new course, I think they'd put stands on the hill to get more capacity for nascar.

Ha, thats nothing, when I first started I was sleeping in the back seat of a Dodge Ram pickup.
And I spent this weekend on the floor of HDs trailer, it was like the Ritz compared to the Ram

not anymore they don't as the new owners are going all family entertainment so it is the end of an era.
And calling them hippies now thats funny .
Things move on but I will miss animal hill as I have had some great times up there , loved them crazy canadians they just don't give a shit.
they had a sign there this weekend saying no burn-out boards should have had one that said no fun allowed

+1. Someone needs to step up and create a separate United States Superbike Series (USBK), that utilizes FIM rules and keeps them in line with WSBK, BSB, etc, etc... ya know, all the other series in the world.

The manufacturers (who got screwed by DMG) would back that in a heart beat and nobody would race whatever the DMG plans on doing... they'd be killed in their tracks.

As far as NHMS... I'm all for a bigger oval if it gets Indy here (anything but Nascrap), and especially if it gets us a shiney new road course.

My only "memories" of the current Loudon road course have *zero* to do with the track / layout, and everything to do with the wonderful peeps who make LRRS what it is.

Re: AMA Racers to Return to Loudon????

I hope AMA never returns to Loudon in it's current config. Sorry, that track is a joke. I love it (friends, family, fun club racing, etc) but... it's not a AMA-level track.

After riding Barber, Sear's, and Laguna in the last 4 months, coming to Loudon this weekend and riding was a real eye-opener... I'd be lying if I told you I felt comfortable out there and the walls / no-runoff didn't bother me. It did.. every lap.

Also after going to Daytona, Laguna (twice), Sear's (twice), Mid-Ohio, and Miller for AMA races I'll tell ya I'd be embarassed to have AMA show up at Loudon.

Now a new road course..... that's a tasty proposition...

Where have I heard that before?

I would take Alex's word for it. He (and many others) have way more experience than I.

you forgot to mention the frost heaves
although no amount of asphalt will stop new england winters from destroying most of our roads

Am I the only one that would totally miss the road course? Yes the amount of walls is bad, but the course is just crazy fun, of course, it helps my self esteem with its reputation when everyone thinks youre absolutely insane for racing it.
