Denno's Classic - LRRS AM 424

Well the weekend really didn't go as planned due to circumstances outside of my control - I'm just glad Jim was "ok" and it let's you know there are more important things than racing... get well pal.. See you back out there soon!

On Thursday I found out that the 675 was not going to be ready and the 636 would be my bike this weekend. Ok cool, its a great bike. Kates noticed the left fork seal was leaking at the last Tony's day but I hadn't gotten it fixed because I didn't think I was going to ride it and was short on $$. I get to Folan's and there's a big puddle next under the left fork - Fantastic!

So Saturday I was a no show - missed 2 races - oh well, no worries...

I arrived late Saturday afternoon and was able to get the forks to PK to work on sunday AM (figured i'd get em both freshened up)

Sat night unleashed a whole shit ton of stress out at stoners casa via vodka and cranberry - I was hating myself sunday morning... thanks for the hospitality man! (is that bad?)

Sun Am arrived to find my bike wrapped in yellow duct tape... god damn. Well played you bastards... Missed first practice getting forks on - got out for 2nd practice and took it really easy and just putted around. Bike felt really strange and couldnt understand why - figured it was just me swapping bikes again... Turns out i forgot to check my pressures - 30lbs over in the back and 25 lbs over in the front... wow - another lesson learned... check your pressures and stop rushing!

I registered for a 3rd race because I wanted to get some more points and keep the ROTY thing alive. I was scheduled for race 5, 7 and the classic... I was a bit worried about race 5 and 7 being so close...

Race 5 - HW SS - 9th Place - I had practiced launching the 636 but it was just not working for me and in the race i bogged it again... god damn... Headed into first near last - Started to get to know the bike and ran consistent 1:23's, so i backed up last weekend's times - very uneventful race, but i was going too slow to feel comfortable on the 636 - ended up finishing ahead of 2 others

Race 7 - UN GP - 5th Place - Personal Best Time - Terrible launch again - small wheelie, bye bye everyone last into T1 - I guess that triumph was easy to launch! (and i thought i was just really good at starts ) I got in and tried to keep close - i was starting to lose sight of the guy in front of me lap 2 but for some reason in lap 3 something clicked and i started to catch and passed the guy ahead of me on the brakes going into 3 (with a great drive out of 2) - I could hear the guy behind me the whole race and actually caught and passed an expert in T2 - wtf? ehh, thats cool, maybe he ran off track? turns out he was just slower.. i finished the race ahead of the guy by 3 tenths of a second across the line - it was cool to actually feel like i was in a race and not be completely alone after lap 3! And the best part was I got a personal best time of 1:20.9!

The Classic - 7th Place - Season Goal Met - (As a side note, one of my goals at the begining of the year was to be able to be eligible to run the Classic, I really just wanted to be in the books, no matter how i finished so I was really proud to be on the grid!) I got another lousy boggy start and found myself in the middle to back of the pack - bye Saxman! I got around a crash in T1a/2 and tried to stick with the guys ahead of me and was able to stay with one guy for about a lap and 1/2 and he started to pull ahead - by lap 3 i was completely gassed, i was so tired! oh dear god there are about 10/11 or so laps to go and I'm already losing my legs! saw a good number of crashes and people running off the track and i just stayed steady and tried to just finish - turned out i was getting around some people just due to DNF's, run off, whatever... I ended up doing some very tired 1:23's - its ok but i was expecting 1:26s when i came in!

All in all not a bad weekend especially considering how it started. I went in with the attitude of just having some fun and really enjoyed myself. no stress and I had my girl Bella with me for the whole thing! The best part was seeing 1:20.9 on the results sheet - I know I have 1:19's in me for next weekend!

As always, thanks for the help Degsy and happy father's day!

Dog tired,

Good stuff Denno. Wish I had half the balls you have for racing. I really need to get out to the track.

Way to go man, you didnt seem much in a joking mood, now I know why, but at least you made it out there. I saw the duct tape on the bike that made me chuckle.

Nice joob Kidoo.

We were watching from the Gino's Dance Platform and closed our eyes for you when the EX came flying around you .

Stay smooth and steady and learn what has happen from the past. 19's will show up when you least expect it. Hell you just might jump to the 18's. It has been know to happen.

thanks Gino - the school bus kid came around me at the apex of the bowl almost taking off my nose and made me tap the brakes! holy shit! that was the first time i was ever really scared by a pass rather than just startled!

i need to really work on my consistency now - i'm finding myself in different spots every few laps

we watched you in the middle race and you were doing fine.
Good job and remember don't tighten the sprocket nuts too tight.
Nice one on getting out there and doing it under the circumstances+

good job denno! though I'm sad I missed it, I'm kinda glad, since apparently by not being there on the same day I saved you a lot of hassle. I was hoping to snap some pics though....maybe next time.

C'mon what did you expect my avatar is a horse :-)
Nah, you looked all serious and shit and didn't want to bust in on the racing mood. I know some people like to zone before events.

Good job Denno.

I saw you while I was corner working in 6. You looked very consistent and relaxed. It didn't even look like you were pushing (a good thing).
