not too shabby.

this is kinda long, but cheer up, it comes with videos
Classic weekend.

So i take Sat off at work to do some extra races. get there Fri night. get set up and reg'd. GTG.

Sat.
Race#2 GTL:

First time in a couple of years since ive done one of these. This field is deeep. 34 deep to be precise and im lined up at the back right next to Alex (A13x) the only person further back than us is Neal (silverdragon). green drops and we are off. OK start and i watch Alex go around the outside of a bunch of people. hes about 5 bikes ahead of me. make some moves and catch and pass him on the straight. had a feeling he was right behind me and video confirms it. i catch up to Mike Dube (#74) on a Duc and hes just got too much motor. i pass him twice but he just motors back by me. couldnt make it stick. i needed a run into the bowl on him but the red flag put an end to that plan.
finished:17th
best lap: 1:19.6 just .2 off my best

Race #12-LWGP
this field is a little smaller (20 bikes) and im right behind Jersey. green drops and i get a decent start. Jersy gets away a little hes about 5 bikes up. im determined to get by him. i get stuck behind some maniac on a motard whos sliding foot out everywhere. i get by and work my way through the field. i pass #888 on the outside of T8 (irony?) and eventually get past Temple. 888 shows me a wheel on the outside of 1 so i put my head down and throw down some serious laps. get through some lap traffic and im catching Hobbs. i get slowed down by a lapper (Chad?) and 888 goes by on the straight. hes got motor on me. i keep in tow looking for a hole but its the last lap and we are closing in on Hobbs. i run outta time.
Finished:10th
best lap: 1:18.8
vid below..batteries die about halfway through race

Sun
Race#3 LWSB

14 starters.this is where i get FUCKED. i go out and am toward the outside for the first time (thank god). it had been raining all morning and picking a tire was impossible. Jersy had opted out. he didnt think it was worth it to risk binning it.i went to get changed with slicks mounted hoping for the best. in the time it took to get changed i come out and its dry. everything is dry. i yell at Jersey to get dressed and we head out. get a decent start. work my way through the field. im not sure where i am but around halfway and i see 2 bikes in the distance and im gaining ground. i get about a second away and realize that its Parks in front of me behind some other guy. T9 and he throws up an arm. Parks goes by and i follow. im reeling him in. come around again and i see a black flag. WTF? for me? no way. i make some quick checks on the bike while i lose ground on Parks. no lights, no bogging, bodywork there, dont see smoke, nothing dangling. must be a mistake. come around again and see the white flag and the guy with the black flag hops the wall and runs out waving and pointing at me.WTF!? i check some more and see nothing. who cares its the last lap right? i "cruise" around again losing any grip on Parks and come by S/F to see ANOTHER white flag (FUCK!) i pull into the T1a gate. i pull into my pits and there is a 6" long piece of insulation (the stuff between the muffler and the hanger clamp) hanging out. im BULLSHIT. i go down to talk to JB and Chris. Chris says "Sandy made a mistake and says that shes sorry" gee...thanks.. im mad, but then get more mad when i discover i was in 7th reeling in 6th. dont know if i couldve gotten by Parks but at least i wouldve been there. then i discover a gaping hole in my stainless steel muffler. guess thats going back to Cali.
finished: DNF (shoulda been 7th)
best lap:1:20.5

the primary ingredient in your bike's emissions... is pain.

Seriously dude, I've never heard of anyone chewing through mufflers as much as you do.

Congrats on the 18

Yeaaa sweet video's Oxx. Man, seeing how fast your SV is compared to a motard on the straight is just silly! Thanks for posting that up as it confirmed my theories on my riding for the weekend. T1-2 and T10 I was just ROTTEN. Ugh, painful to watch.

I'll have a helmet cam when I come back so we can do dueling POV cams

Re: not too shabby.

That sucks about the black flag.

I was corner working in 6 and heard the call on the radio. When you came through the bowl we were all trying to figure out what was hanging off your bike. We figured it was tape and probably not a problem, but it wasn't our call.

Re: not too shabby.

fork shots looked good. i'd actually like to see that on a couple bikes and compare the amount they compress. couple times i thought you were going to bottom them out.

you are smoking into T1. caught jersey and clan pretty easily there in the second video

that was fucking awesome. i HAD to get by that motard. he was a thorn last race weekend. jersey went inside and i just hoped i had enough room to get by. braked late and BAM 2 for 1. Jersy said i was moving when i went by him. i felt awesome that race and i dont think ive ever gone that hard/fast into 11 as i did that race. it all just felt right. its too bad the camera died on me, i had a couple more great passes. i got Chad on the outside of 11, i was practically on top of him through the turn.

Re: not too shabby.

Oxx, first things first. If you see the white flag for the second time, keep going! It might have been thrown early, the starter might have actually screwed up, or anything else. Hold out until the checkers.
Whenever I hear the cornerworkers start following a bike around the track for a possible black flag, I go out to the wall for a look and see for myself. I have a vested interest in this because if they make a bad call, I'm the one who catches hell for it 'cause I'm the first person you see coming off the track. (Ask Gman about the "open leathers" deal last year.)
The original call was for a hard piece hanging off your bike, but when I saw you coming onto the front straight, I was reasonably sure that it was what it turned out to be: insulation between the band and the cannister flapping in the wind. I told Control about it, and a couple of stations concurred with me. I thought that was the end of it.....
Not much consolation to you, but over 95% of the time the cornerworkers make a good call on this stuff. They want to err on the side of caution when they aren't sure. One earlier precident involved Tom Fournier. He had a high speed crash into the woods at Bridgehampton, losing his leg. His rear wheel was locked up by a piece of loose exhaust wrapping.

Re: not too shabby.

ahhh...see nothing was said about hard metal hanging off. that would be the giant piece of stainless steel missing from my exhaust can (see above pics). i just wish that if the concensus was that it wasnt anything major (i assume that the piece had fallen off) they hadnt thrown the black flag twice at me. regardless of how many white flags they threw i didnt think it proper to keep going since i had already seen the BF twice...3 times wouldve been pushing it. i know that the rules say i can see it twice and the only reason i came around for the 3rd was to take the checkers and when they werent there i just pulled in. in hindsight i shouldve just finished the race instead of exiting in 1a, and taken the tongue lashing after the race.
im almost over it now. not a big deal
