just got a line on a KTM 50 that I might pick up and see what I can work with it.

Its official, just bought a KTM 50 adventure to try my hand at pitbike racing. I wish it wasn't a single speet auto but oh well, i'll work it.

Mark is looking for an XR80 or a TTR... Keep an eye out.

Let me know if you need anything for the KTM.

So far that makes 4 of us with bikes!

I've done some googling but haven't found much. It would be nice if we had a sticky or something for pit-bike upgrades, like BBR kits, tires, bars etc...

got any good links for KTM 50 upgrades?

Wow, that is a HUGE topic, and when you toss in non-pitbikes like the KTM50, well... did I say HUGE yet? : )

Lets start with the basics. What size rims do you have on that thing now?

Picking it up tomorrow. it has the stock 2.75x10" rims on it. It is the single speed autoclutch. I know the year is 2000 but I've been told that it is the adventure and the pro. Not sure the differences right now.

I'm hoping to get some street rubber on there maybe this week if there are any places with the tires in stock close by.

Not sure where else to go, but any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

TTR125, specifically. The smaller ones are too itty bitty for me to fit on.

And whatever it ends up being, it needs to be cheap, like under $300. Winter projects are okay though.

Mark, That bike is going to be pretty big isn't it? I think that will be huge compared to Docs thumpstar. A ttr is a full 12" longer than a kx65 and those are already bigger than the 4 stroke pitbikes. Looks like they come with a 17" front and a 14" rear wheel.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say 2.75x10 is the tire size, and not the rim size. : ) A nearly 3" wide 10" rim would be gargantuan on something that size. A set of Dunlop TT92 90/90R10s should do the job. TT91s work as well. Lots of other options in that size as well, I just happen to like TT91/TT92 tires for pitbike racing now that my Sava's are unavailable.

jcbell- tires shouldn't be a problem with that size rim. Most of the pit bikes come with that size tire. You can find them as cheap as $20-25$ or up to $90. I don't know what ones work better than others. I didn't have as many choices since I needed a 14" front.

As far as handle bars go you could go with something like a PowerMadd pivot riser. This will allow you to use the stock handle bars and move them foward and up a bit. If you stay with something around a 2 or 3 inch riser you should be able to use stock cables. Might have to re-route them. One more thing to get, a set of wrap around handgaurds. It will save your levers.

Yeah, the TTR125 would need a smaller front wheel. It's not an ideal choice, but the engine size (as opposed to the XR80's) would be nice for hauling my 250lb ass around the track. And the TTR110 has an auto clutch, which I don't like, so I don't want one of those.

An XR80 would probably be the best bet, since it's a little smaller overall than the TTR125. In time I could always build it up with a big-bore kit, etc.

Doc's Thumpstar is too small for me. I was basically sitting on my heels -- just too miniscule. I need a little more room between seat and pegs.

Naults Honda has 10" in stock.

I am going to see if we can get some interest from a dealer in stocking some pitbike stuff.

Or maybe I will start stocking stuff.

I disagree. A TTR125 with 17" wheels handles quite well. And you can fit 125GP slicks and rain tires on it. 5 speed, manual clutch, tons of hop up parts for it...

I think the point is that a TTR with 17" wheels would be too big for Rocky Ridge, not that it wouldn't handle great on a bigger track. It might work well there, but it will certainly be out of place with all the other smaller bikes.

You'd be surprised. They do handle well. And with the 17's I'd be able to run over all you wee-tired folks...

Tell that to the SEMRA crew, you'll find most of them running 12" wheels for better handling, even on CR85s and CRF150Rs. 17" wheels are a detriment unless you're running 80mph+.

I assume you would like to find a dealer closer to you, but if your are interested I would be willing to stock stuff and work with you guys priceing. I would be willing to bring support parts to the track.

Would this be worth while....

I have an old rm 125 that I learned to ride on! Its been neglected for a LONG time. I'm thinking winter project to get it running and turn it into a street legal motard.

Would it be too big for the pitbike racing? Would I have to get smaller rims?

Has anyone done this?

Whats the cost of turning a dirtbike into a motard?
