Just for the record, I talked to bergs about this. He had the line and the pass, guy just turned into him. Never apologized either. Bergs wasn't happy about it, I'll let him tell the story.
That guy was over his head out there from what I saw, very erratic...

Guy was pitted about 50' from us. Walked by him a million times. He was a older guy with his wife and very limited setup.
If you guys ever feel like there is a Novice out there doing some 'interesting' things I recommend finding one of your Rider Reps and talking to them about it. A simple conversation with you, the Rider Rep there, and the guy might be all that's needed to help get him riding better and more comfortable.
Some guys are complete wackjobs (in every class... we have some in Expert too...) but many times a simple civil conversation will do. Half the time folks don't even realize they are riding 'dangerously', especially if they are new.
Cool off. Think it over. Talk it over.

EDIT: Due to recent circumstances involving my return to racing, if you are reading this thread in 2024 and beyond, please understand my reaction to this incident was certainly a bit on the defensive side as I was in a completely different frame of mind during these years.
I genuinely thought a few of the fine members here were against me and I did not want my Novice race year to be "marred" by this incident, given the implications of the photos.
I strive to be the cleanest rider however I did not have the maturity to understand this was merely a racing incident.
Given all that, I was less than impressed at the time knowing I was inevitably stuck with being "the butcher" during a time where there were a handful of dirty riders in the same class I was racing in, albeit in Amateur.....where I was about to bump to from Novice around the timeframe these pic were taken.
All of this is to say, in hindsight I wish I took it in stride a whole lot better because this was always going to be the way.....butcher bergs was always going to be a thing given this racing incident.
I eventually learned to accept it and here we are today.
Thank you for reading.
When in doubt, gas it out!

Epic picture right there!!
Meg, Kitt,
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not much else to the story really. I thought he was riding pretty straight until this moment.
I truly want to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but for him to not even acknowledge the contact tells me another story.
Addtionally, we were both looking left (obviously), I was a wheel-length behind him (meaning "almost directly next to him) and yet I could see still him out of my peripheral, but for him not to be able to see me?? I'm not buying it....but for some reason I STILL want to give him the benefit of the doubt...
Wasn't a big deal when it all went down. My foot was taken off the peg and the bike got squirrely for a moment but for some reason I never shit my pants...I more like "WTF is this guy trying to do?"
As soon as I felt my bike's connection with the pavement was never interrupted I just continued with my head down putting in work.
Naaahhhhh.....pssssshhhhhh....I just wanted to hit that ass, Alex!
I have nothing to say to this guy, quite honestly. The picture says everything.
As much as I say I want to give the benefit of the doubt my gut tells me he tried to send me into the weeds or perhaps by him turning into me like that was his bright idea of trying to stuff me.....either way, I have his number now...
Justin - Sparks? Really??

Was Bergs lapping him?

No. He shot around me in T1 after the green and I followed him around for a lap (or was it two?) before sticking the pass you see here.
Thing is, I don't care enough to say anything. There are enough people here, either lurking or as forum members, that will see and read this thread. It will work itself out one way or another......least that's my take on it.
Ah. I thought you were lapping him.
Well we'll see. I'll keep my eye out for him on the track next weekend. If he's riding like a Crazy Dangerous D-Bag, I'll go say helloIf he's riding like a fast newb who's still a bit erratic, well, seen tons of those.
