Info on trackdays

I am pretty interested in participating in a few trackdays this coming season. I want some suggestions on which organization to join. I was looking at NESBA and they have a few trackdays days scheduled at course moto in tamworth. Nesba is also offering two free sessions on the track for first time track goers.

I have never participated in a trackday before. I dont need any kind of licensing, do I?

Are there any other tracks in the area aside from Course Moto and Loudon?

Loudon and NHIS are the same thing, right?

BTW I live in North Central MA, is Course Moto really far?

I hear that CM is pretty swanky and new. Is it open yet?

CM in Tamworth is not open yet, not even built yet, but they are starting and we should back them and anyone trying to develop and promote our sport.

You do not have to join a club to do a trackday. You do not need a license either.

Just come and play with min. bike prep.

Other tracks:
Not closer to you. Try Pocono or Limerock

Would it be worthwile to join NESBA and get the free introductory class time and two track sessions?

Who hosts the trackdays at Loudon?

How much does it cost (aprox) to go to a trackday?

Is Tamworth going to be a really good track?

How is NHIS ?

I called Limerock and their testing is Shit!!!! For $50 you get 1 hour of track time, if there isn't enough people they just cancell the testing for the day. If you have never ridden a track before you want to spend the day at the track having fun.

Look at the track day Tony does at NHIS. It's not full of racers so you can have fun and not feel like your the slowest person alive.

I'm not sure how you could safely run bikes at LRP. when you crest the hill in the back coming out of no name straight you get very light in a car, to the point where the car skates around, A LOT!

I can only imagine you would get air born on a bike. As it is I have seen many a car get pitched into the woods over the guard rail back there.

Even if they run the hill chicane I still don't see how you could be fast and still safely navigate that portion of the track.

The track is deceptively fast but very bumpy on the main straight. It might not be the best place to go if you do not have track experience.

I would do it or at least try it but I would reccomend new comers do a different track with a school.

>> Don't know, what's the fee.

Who hosts the trackdays at Loudon?

>>Anyone that can come up with the track rental fee and get the time slot. Most times at NHIS are already taken.

How much does it cost (aprox) to go to a trackday?

>> Varies a little with what you get, 200-250. With the 250 you usually get lunch, a little more personalized (smaller groups).

Is Tamworth going to be a really good track?

>> Once we get a lap, we'll let ya know! Any new surface is good.

How is NHIS ?

>>In which respect? The track is "technical" (hard to learn). Once you are good at NHIS, you're pretty much good everywhere. I'd say the prices are fair, it's close and holds a lot of bike activities. EVERYONE is nice.

Beet

Yup raced there many times. Turned some ok lap times in my RX-7 down in the 1:04 - 1:06 range. My quickest time was in a Viper at 1:00.77 I was trying to make it under a minute but alas the tires just would not have it.. (ask the grass coming out of big bend)

Limerock looks nice, and its a little bit closer than Tamworth. The 50 bucks for an hour of track time is tempting, but according to their website:

Driver Eligibility: All drivers must be 18 years old and present a current ARM, AMA, AMACCS, WERR or AHRMA competition license.

I meet the first one, but not any of the important ones. I think I am pretty much limited to trackdays with organizations, right?

Who is Tony at NHIS?

NESBA is only having trackdays (in this area) at Tamworth.

Prices for NESBA @ Tamworth
$170 member/ $230 non-member

This is one of the most expensive trackdays that they do, and its probably because how new and big Tamworth is.

Tony Iannarelli (SP?). Nice guy.

go to the links section and click on the Sport Riders of New England banner.

Yes, you are relegated to track days, unless you go to Penguin School and get your license (what I recommend).

Wow, a $60 swing from not being a member, OUCH! How much is a membership?

If you go to Penguin, you will be qualified to do any practice, you don't have to compete or get your racing license. If you chose not to get your license, you must take Penguin again. School is only good for one year.

Membership is $75 and it is an annual fee.

How much does penguin school cost and where is it held?

What would I have to do to get my license after Penguin school?

I am not a penguin, is this going to be a problem?

What are the different classifications of moto licenses?

Is there one Nat'l standard for licensing?

I highly recommend doing Tonys trackdays at Loudon www.samnetracing.com Nesba is also a great organization to ride with, but they don't run on any local tracks as of yet. The closest Nesba events are at Pocono,PA and thats a 5 or 6 hour drive. With Nesba you get a chance to ride some different tracks, and they run on weekends. Personally, I prefer samnet days, Tony works hard to make sure you get your moneys worth.

Also, if you don't have full gear already, leathers, boots and gloves, it may pay to start buying that stuff over the next few months before the season gets here. Figure on dropping around $750 for gear and then $200 per event

No, not unless a two 15 min sessions of tracktime is worth a five hour drive to you. And this is like smoking crack, you'll want more.

The penguin school looks more up my alley. Its less expensive and there are more dates to choose from.

So if I pass the one day penguin school I can run my bike at places that would require that I have a license?

You can run Thursday practice at Loudon for like $100, but ifs more of a free for all. Start with one of Tonys events to get your feet wet, gotta learn to walk before you can run.

If your looking to do Track days do one of Tony's and see if you like it. The basic Penquin school is 1/2 a day class room and then 1.5 hours of follow the leader then maybe 3 - 15 min session of open practice with all the AM races from 3-6, and it is a cluster fuck out there. The open practice's are good but it is full of racers trying to get better and faster not to have someone there to use it for a fun track day.

How many thursday practices have you guys done?

Thursday before car weekends (which is most of the time) There are 3 -4 bikes per 4 hours.

You can 't beat that with a stick!

I have to disagree with your take on the class, I went the first one of the year and everyone was serious. The class teaches you what to expect on the track, what the flags mean, and how to handle yourself in various corners there, as well as what to expect if you encounter problems.

I hadn't done track days before the class. I stepped off the street green as hell. The 10 - 12 hour class seemed like 15 mins to me, had the time of my life! Loved every minute of it.

but I'm not fast, just having fun.

I'll agree with you on Tony's days, never been but from enough people, Tony tries very hard to make it fair for everyone and get you as much saddle time as possible.

No, you don't have to be a penguin to take the class.
