I am more than mildly interested. This could be a life-altering event. We could even raise money for a fake charity to cover the cost of rooms, meals & gas. I don't know if my bike would make it round-trip, but it can't hurt to try.

Ok, since there seems to be enough interest, let me throw out a tentative start date:

Thursday, October 21, 2004.

Biktoberfest goes from the Thursday the 21st, and end on Sunday the 24th. If we leave on Thursday, we should get there sometime on Friday, thus you all could have the weekend in Daytona.

Thoughts, comments, opinions, suggestions?

A suggestion -

I think I said this in another post......what does everyone think of the idea of hooking up with the "Auto Train" in Virginia -

Ride twisties all the way down to VA, get on a train (they load the bikes into boxcars) in the evening, sleep and party on the train, arrive in Sanford, Florida (outside of Orlando, I think about 1 hour from Daytona) and be fresh and ready to ride and enjoy the weather.

Am I being a big , or does anyone else like that idea?

It's called the "Auto Train", you can find out more about it on amtrak's web site. Suf Daddy and I, along with another guy, were planning on doing this trip last fall, and I gathered a bunch of info, but then I sold my bike.

I can't remember how much money it was, I'll have to check the site....I know they have differences for if you just want a seat to sleep on (I guess they recline?), or for a few bucks more you can rent a tiny ass room with bunk beds. I'll check their site and post a link......

Looks like in the neighborhood of $500-600 round trip if you're ok with sleeping in a reclining seat. Bedrooms fit 2 people or more, depending on what type of bedroom, etc.

Quite a bit more expensive than just riding down....but that last half of the trip is probably quite sucky, I've never done more than 600 miles in a day, and it fucking HURT. On a VFR, no less.....
