Off to Americade

The wife and I are off for a week of riding out around lake george NY for the Americade bike touring rally.
We leave first thing in the morning. I packed all the luggage on my sprint and she is riding my DR 650 out.
I have never been before so it should be an adventure.

I'll post some pics when we get back next week

Just got back, with 2 miles shy of 1400 for the week. My butt really hurts.

We had a bit of everything, rain, thunder , hot humid, sunny, we rode into the tail end of a small tornado that had touched down.

My bike broke down and I had to ride a borrowed bike 125 miles down the highway to the nearest triumph dealer for a part, then 125 miles back to the hotel after already doing 200 miles of twisties that morning , when I got to the hotel a nice couple that had trailered up offered to give me a ride in their truck 30 miles north to where my bike was at the general store. I fixed it in 5 minutes ( pressure fitting for the fuel line ) and rode back to the hotel at night in a an absolutely down pouring thunder and lightening storm in the fog ( what a trip that was) . But its fixed and the rest of the week went good.

The roads up in the aderondacks are pretty close to those in up state VT. A lot of wide open sweapers with some tight stuff mixed in , Like I said I did 1400 miles and only 250 of that was slab.

I think we might go back next year and explore some more of the roads that weren't on the map.

there are some sweet county roads (essex county) just north of lake george, between Crown point, Moraih Center, Elizabehttown Schroon lake , some nice dual sport roads too

if you can fine a copy of theis map, it shows the whole adirondack region in detail

I've always heard there are a lot of touring type vendors at americade, how is it for crowds and access to vendors, do they have time for personal attention or is it a zoo?

Early in the week is better as the crowds show up thurs.
The majority of the vendors were in 2 spots, one in doors with air conditioning, and the many more over at the beach area, you can park once and take the trolly back and forth between them.

The attention was very individual, the guy we talked to about helmets spent quite some time with us, as did the woman that helped leah find gloves that actually fit her.

This is definately a family friendly TOURING rally. Not really the "biker " party type thing that many of the other bike weeks have become .The purpose was to get out and ride. They give you a pretty good map with a bunch of detailed loops to do, with mileage and estimated time.

If we both end up with road worthy dual sports that would be a cool place to explore, but I was on the sprint so we stuck to the pavement for this trip.

Funny you should say that because we actually ended up staying at the same hotel as some friends of ours , rode with them and ate dinner a few times with them, Then a random meeting with Jim up at a resturant in lake placid. So I still don't know what its like ...............

Dispite some events beyond our control we still had a good time.

It sure was nice to hang with a couple of familiar faces that afternoon. What were the chances of meeting up like that?

Glad to hear that you had a good week despite some weather and the problem with the bike. I got caught in some of that stuff too. Where was the general store that your bike was at?

See you at the track in July.

Jim
