Boston Area Riding

Hey everyone, this is my first post to this forum so forgive me if this information is available somewhere else.

I went on a ride with my 2001 Suzuki GS500 around Boston today with weather that wasn't too bad and was wondering if there are any rides planned for Boston or any surrounding cities? I'd love to get out on the road with some people instead of riding alone!

Let me know.

Thanks,
Josh

Nope, just like the factory and thought it'd be cool to take some bike pics in front of the factory. I'm a beer snob, always trying something new.

Re: Boston Area Riding

welcome to the forum, no there aren't really great places to ride, and to figure out which places you should ride:
-wait until summer and go on group rides
-sit on google maps and search, then check it out, then go back to searching

but, although quite dangerous...so I don't encourage riding around here, I personally don't mind certain parts of storrow drive, some parts of the jamaica way, and (while I haven't been yet), I hear the blue hills has a nice road

oh yea i absolutely can't stand riding in boston. getting in and out of somerville is a pain too. don't despair though, there are fun roads not too far north and west of us.

Re: Boston Area Riding

I'm just trying to make due with what's around me. I live in Brighton, close to BC. I'm wondering if there's any good riding around the Newton area, though I've seen plenty of cop activity in Newton. I'm not lookin for any balls to the wall riding, just a friendly group ride to a cycle shop or something, get food somewhere, and continue on. I'll most likely be riding tomorrow, if anyone's interested in joining me, let me know!

Re: Boston Area Riding

Welcome fellow Suzuki owner. It's still a little early for group rides. Wait until the beginning of April and watch the Ride and Event Info section of this forum.

A lot of us also use GroupRider.com - The place to find motorcycle group rides and people to ride with. Sign yourself up on that site, it's another good way to find group rides.

Re: Boston Area Riding

I wasn't planning on riding today but my roommate, who was my ride to campus, decided to sleep in. It takes me too long to get to campus via the T so I had to take my bike. Engine BARELY started because of the cold, but other than that ran ok. I was super careful riding over the T tracks and going very slow in every corner. I had no idea it snowed last night, oh well.

Re: Boston Area Riding

Hey Josh,
I live in Newton and look for riding buddies occassionally. I don't know any good roads, but am willing to explore. I also went riding yesterday - mostly to work and back as I was stuck at work until 6:30. Also have a kid and a busy job, so limited somewhat, but may be up to riding this Sunday.

Re: Boston Area Riding

Unsure I can dig up my bike to ride tomorrow (it is covered with lots of the snow on the cover and I am at work), but the weather looks to be good tomorrow for a ride...

hey what kind of cover do u have and how well does it work in snow? i'd like to keep my bike covered in the driveway through the rest of this weather, cuz the closest garage is 45 minutes away and i can't really ride at moment's notice...

Re: Boston Area Riding

You'll laugh....I bought a cover from Target online...I think it was dirt cheap, like $30+shipping. It works really well to protect from both rain and snow. It also has the heat shields for the muffler, but I always wait at least 15 minutes before covering my bike. It helps that I have a centerstand - I always keep my bike on the centerstand to take some weight off the tires.
Here it is: Motorcycle Cover - L : Target

that's the cover i bought lol

$20 for the Xtra Large cover cause they didn't have the Large covers
it's not waterproof though, just a caution

you should cover it with a tarp to make it waterproof, or put the bike in a garage.

Looks like weather is going to be bike-unfriendly for the rest of the week and possibly the weekend. No riding and no good weather make Josh go something, something...
