Vermont Ride

Anyone up for a ride to VT this Saturday or Sunday? I want to do a central VT trip. In particular, Routes 5, 103, 100, 4, and 7. Get up by Killington then come back. These roads are a lot of fun and have some nice twisties too. I know these roads really well, so let me know if you want to go. This will be an all day ride.

I'm down. I live right at the NH/VT border in MA so could meet wherever. I've ridden rt. 5 more or less from the MA line up to about Bellows Falls, which is about where 103 begins, and its pretty flat and straight, and boring, just FYI. You end up running through alot of town centers on 5 and getting stuck behind bozos in cars, just so you know.

I should be available either day this weekend, and most of those roads are new to me, so would love to go exploring. I really want to run Rt. 30 north out of Brattleboro, heard its mostly big sweepers, but the road seems to be in pretty good shape just outside of Brat, so I wanna check it out.

Rte 30

is OK, but turns to dirt as you head towards Grafton. Have you tried Rte 9 over Hogback Mountain?

I just rode 5 today, 103, and Brockways Mills Rd. Have any of you guys ridden that road that goes from Rte 5 in Putney over to Dummerston? I think it is called East-West Road. It is pretty good as far as curves, but there are houses and driveways thru a good part of it.

Nope, how far from the center of town is it if you are heading north?

Nevermind, found it on mapquest. Cool, I could make that a short afternoon loop of mine.......head up 5 through Guilford, skip around Brat on the highway, run through Putney into Dummerston, take 30 south and then take a few Weatherhead? Hollow road over into Leyden.

Okay, lets shoot for Saturday. Rt. 5 north of Bellows Falls I thought was pretty fun (and fast). We can venture off west from there and head over to 100 towards Andover/Weston. I know all the roads real well (considering that I used to be a state trooper and patrolled the area!). No need to worry about speed traps either!

I'm thinking of meeting around 9:30... probably off of Rt. 2 in MA. I'll have an exact meeting spot by tomorrow night once I know where everyone is coming from.

I'm dying to rack up a few hundred miles on some beautiful open roads!!!!

You went right by my house and didn't stop 'cause why??!
I just DROVE 103 today. A whole lot of leaf-peepers already!

That road between Putney and Dummerston is sweet! I like the part from Bratt. up to the "Four corners".
Saturday, Hmmmm...

Well, gosh

I live in Springfield. I can't go on Saturday. I have to work. Be careful if you guys go up 100 through Plymouth. The local LEO picked me off and rewared me witha 3 point ticket. Road surface on 100 absolutely sucks at some points. Thay were paving last week, so there is rotomill before Hancock, if you go that far North.

So we've officially got an unofficial "police" escort? Saturday sounds great, I can meet pretty much wherever, as I'm all of 30 minutes south of Putney/Bellows Falls. Maybe meet somewhere off Rt. 2 east of 91 and head Northwest up into NH via.......whichever route sounds good? We could meet somewhere in the Athol/Orange area and run 78 through Warwick, MA into Winchester, NH and then just take 119 through Hinsdale and over the bridge into Brat, could either jump up 5 from there or hit the start of rt. 30?

Ok, so Saturday it is. We can meet up on Rt. 2 in MA. Exit 18 in Athol, MA works for me. From there we could probably take 78 North. When we get to VT, we can all decide what roads to hit first. If the main routes are lousy, I know some back roads through Andover and Weston, VT that are a lot of fun.

I am planning on an all day trip. No big deal if we want to cut it short, but I want to get as many miles in as possible.

I'm in Melrose, MA, so if there's a couple people in eastern, MA going, let me know and we can meet up prior to heading to Athol.

Let's shoot for 9:30 for Athol, if that works for everyone.

Cool?
