we fly out Aug 25th for Zurich, get our bikes just outside of town. Plan is to head south for Italy (do Fuerka, Stelvio, etc) and into the Dolomites. Then east into Austria, gotta do Gross-Glockner, and north to Munich. Finish up with a rip through the black forest & back to Zurich. Fly home Sept 5th.

I'll take plenty of pictures.

Are those the same roads from James Bond "Golden Eye"
Bond is in his Austin Martin racing Miss Onatop in her Ferrari?

if you have a reasonably fast connection check out some of the on-board vids from this site: Road MC the "Timmelsjoch South" is particularly good.

oh, and to answer the rental question, we rent from Moto Mader they are just outside Zurich

well, there are speed limits:
and the fines can be as much as here... but to be honest last time we were there we hardly saw any police (actually we hardly saw any cars)... the secondary roads are pretty lightly traveled, everyone sticks to the tunnels if they want to make good time.

we did see two m/c cops in Italy, the "Carabinieri".... they looked at us, gave a wave, then hauled ass away from us on the twisties. those guys were flying!

So you do this by yourself? I was thinking of, at some point when the kiddies are a little bit older and able to be watched by a relative for a good week or so, going on an Edelweiss tour with my wife. I was wondering if you've ever gone that route. I grew up in West Germany, actually, but I think a guided tour would be the way to go (for the first time anyway). It sounds like the Edelweiss tours usually break down into groups of people traveling at all different paces, usually for 200 or so miles a day. The trips are not exactly cheap, though, when one figures in renting a bike. I'm definitely a jealous man. Have fun!

I'm assuming you will be renting a bike from the guide. What will you be riding. I'd be wanting a liter twin for those switchbacks.

here's some info I posted earlier

basically a guided tour would be big bucks, but could be a lot of fun... going with Joe is kinda guided (he's been a few times) but with none of the drama. We pretty much ride where we want to and stay wherever we end up

looks like the weather will be pretty nice. We have a Yamaha TDM, a FZ-1 Fazer and a Beemer 1150-R rented from MotoMader outside Zurich. Plan is to trade bikes during the 10 days or so and see which we like.

Check the link to Joe's site and drop him an e-mail of you'd like more info.

oh, and it'd be "less than two weeks" now
