Let's go on a group ride!!! Please read...

Group Rides:

This has been said before; with all the new members leading rides I thought it wise to restate the NESTREETRIDERS basics for group rides:

1.) No one gets left behind. Leaders, please use a "sweeper"; a skilled rider familiar with the route to bring up the tail end of the group. Wait for everyone to get to the planned meeting point before continuing.

2.) Please ride within your skills. We are not going to preach, or mandate speeds, we want to remind everyone to stay safe. No injuries!

3.) Please go over a few hand signals before you take off so everyone understands while out on the road.

Take a moment to read the real "If you are going to ride with us" post (not really the whole thread), and have fun out there!!

I've tried to lead group rides, believe me. About 8 weekends a year, most recently I tried to lead a group ride down in Florida.

No one seems to like my slow pace though!

I'm planning another group ride in Feb/Mar timeframe, care to join us?

the author advised against leaning off the bike or tuck in for street ride because it's not safe? does it make sense?

I think it was more the point he was trying to make. Basically emphasizing that the road is NOT a place to ride like you're in a race. Pace YOURSELF, and not by others' pace...

"Don't hang off in the corners or tuck in on the straights
Sitting sedately on the bike looks safer and reduces unwanted
attention. It also provides a built-in safety margin. "

that's what he said. make sense?

why "no tuck in on the striaigt" makes any difference other than help reduce wind blast?

If you tuck in, you automatically look like you're speeding. If you're sitting straight up you attract less unwanted attention. That part has nothing to do with safety, I think its more about PR.

That's exactly the way I interpreted it too. And it's something I SOMEWHAT practice. I tend to hit it a bit around corners then mellow out a bit when I come outta it. I have this habit of sitting upright and trying to look as calm and non aggresive as possible once I'm outta the corner. Just gives the overall impression that you're just toolin' along...

i was thinking on a highway at 70mph or so.

from what i hear the general public seem to think people on sportsbike are agressive even if it's park. we know that is not the case.

as a newb there is definately some good info there. I always "sit up" but I guess that's because I'm on a zrx and that's how you're positioned. I ride slow anyway
