I'm looking for a laptop with a cracked or otherwise damaged screen for a project. Something around a 500+ Mhz machine would work ideal. Smaller the better. Must work with external monitor. If you have something like this for sale, please let me know the specs and how much you're asking...

I have a dell lattidue going up for sale soon. Think it's a P3 650, 20 gig hard drive 128 or 256 ram. It needs to have it's fans cleaned, a new battery, and a new power supply could be needed. But it's a good system. The screen isn't broken, but I could change that in a matter of seconds if ya want. My new moster of a laptop should be here tomorrow.

Heh, heh...well the screen doesn't *have* to be broken...

What makes you think it needs a new power supply?

What were you looking to fetch for it? The reason I'm looking for one with a broken screen is that I have a 7" XGA LCD monitor for the car, I just need a nice cheap compact computer to shove under the passenger seat for the thieves to steal because I'm not sure they can get enough to buy crack for just the monitor.

I figure it need a new power supply because the cord is kinda twisted and the rubber around the wire is starting to fade. It can turn off when kinked the wrong way. I was thinking 400.

Thanks for the info on the laptop, bit more than I'm looking to spend which is why I'm hoping to find a damaged one. I don't imagine you'll have much trouble selling it though, latitudes are great laptops.

If you go to one of the computer shows there will probably be some vendor there with a giant pile of them in semi-working condition for $10 each and you can easily find what you want.

Got a Compaq Armada in good working condition, 256 MB RAM, 10 GB HD, CD/DVD/Floppy, PII366 (Quite snappy, actually). Battery holds a charge too! The screen is not broken, but I'll let the thing go for $275 or BO. Can get you a pic if needed.

Dell CPX laptop. No screen, works pretty mint. I think it's a 300 or a 333. I'm lookin for about $100 for it. I just couldn't see the point in spending another $200 for an LCD for it.

Elaine, it sounds like clayton has what I was looking for, so I don't want to deprive someone of a perfectly good laptop. Buuut if you were just going to give it to goodwill...my sister's friend was using an old pentium 90 laptop with a 10" screen up until a few weeks ago when it died. She brought it up tonight to see if we could fix it but it's toast. She doesn't have much money and I told my sister I'd keep my eyes out for something for her....Were you looking to get any $$ for it, and if so how much?

nah i wasn't expecting to get anything for it; i hardly ever use it.

one thing though - it currently only runs linux 2.0 so you'll need to install an older version of windows if that's what your friend wants. prob win98, i doubt it can handle XP.
