Sick Cafe Racer

    Re: Sick Cafe Racer

Hey man, I'm all about shitting on people that have bikes just to look cool...as well as a few other groups.(bah hoppin, harley baggah fags) I'm just saying don't take it out on the bikes. Trends are dumb, deal with it.

Like I said, ride what you like, more power to you. The visuals are subjective I myself have owned many an ugly bike, and more ugly cars than I can count. Of course, i guess there is a certain satisfaction that comes with riding an ugly piece of junk, as long as it rides nice, because you don't really care about how it looks. But since I cannot afford to have multiple bikes, i want the one I do have to look and function well.

    Mine:

This thing will never have "good" brakes or suspension because I'd much rather put the good brakes and suspension on something else. It's a low-buck thing to fuck around with on the side.

Although it does have rearsets.. kind of.

Hating cafes because of hipsters is kind of like hating KTMs because of those posers that go to starbucks dressed in $2k worth of Kilm gear.

Gotta love those Comstar wheels! I agree, it is nice to have a low money project to dick around with.

Here is a pic of the last one I built:

Hipsters draw the hate because they've taken a motorcycle genre that was originally focused on improving the handling and performance of a machine and flipped it into art house looks only garbage. They aren't making 'cafe' bikes, they're trashing good classic iron only to get bored and move on after putting maybe 30 miles on their 'creation.'

    Re: Sick Cafe Racer

Thanks Chipper..I really enjoyed the Kwak. Hopefully the one I am building now works out. Its been a lot more involved trying to get everything to fit correctly...ducati gas tank, GSXR1000 forks, CBR900RR wheels, and a completely hand fabricated subframe, tank mount, and modified swingarm to get the dula cantilevered shocks to work properly. plus i had to notch the swingarm to get a 190 series tire to fit in there

I like the tail light and the rear sub-frame. Also the mono-shock. I wish I had the knowledge required to fabricate like that.

In the mean time I will just continue where my father left off hacking this bit of good classic iron.

Lak should teach a class if he can stand the people that'd show up for it.

My class would be how to use 50 different tools for a 1/2 hour job. Everytime I go out to work on the thing, my garage looks like Beirut when I am finished

I have a ritual that involves opening every drawer on the tool chest before finding the tool on the floor next to the bike.

This had me absolutely cracking up.
"but I want it to look like a Neil Diamond concert dipped in diamonds on the 4th of July with a Saturn 5 booster going off in the background, yet understated and tasteful at the same time. you catch my drift. "

That Kwak came out great, and your current project is really interesting too. Good luck with it.

Once upon a time I built this out of a clunker '76 cb550K.

A guy offered me $3.5K in a SF bar, I wish I'd turned him down.
