^^^i agree...never heard of the passenger peg thing being an issue...even the mirror thing i don't think you would have trouble as long as you have one...but these things are minor changes that you could just keep it stock and get it inspected and then just swap them all out in a few minutes

Quite a successful day (this must be how the wife feels when she goes to the Wrentham outlets...) HJC CL X6 hemlet, 100% goggles with little tear off nubs, and some Shift pants that fit over the Fox boots! Also got some little straps that mount to the helmet to hold the goggle on without the big strap, and i guess let you pull them off to the side easier.

Wow. Those WR-R's sure do look nice. I want to get a dual sport bike for my wife this year, but I want to find one that has an auto-clutch available for it. In looking at the Rekluse site, they do not seem to offer anything for the new CRF250L, the WR-R, or even the KLX250...

Going to check out a WR tomorrow for myself. Not a shiny new like yours, but new to me! And I grabbed a new AFX lid today from Kevin's cycle, great deals with his shop closing! Got a FX-17 for 63.71 out the door. New to off road, thinking of a wr250r. Any thoughts?-fx-17-multi_black_side_detail-jpg

Just got home with a new to me 2005 WR250f.
The guy put a Ti FMF exhaust on it, not as quiet as i thought it would be, lol. Gave me the stock stuff too, but I kinda like the FMF.

ive got an AFX dual sport lid. not bad for the money. its not SNELL, but it does have the same ECE rating as AGV. i feel like i can trust that.

F is a true enduro, offroad only (unless it got plated without help from the factory), lighter, not EFI, and has a more woods oriented suspension than a dual sport. There are many differences really, I don't believe many, if any, parts cross between the models

I will try and get some pics in the next few days. The wheels are in my basement warming up so I can rip the old tires off and put some new rubber on that I picked up today. Kevin's Cycle man, 25% off everything! Got 2 tires and a new battery for less than $200 bucks today. And well, seeing as how everything was on sale, grabbed a bunch of new shiny plastic to put on too. R7 would be proud!

That's the plan! The KTM 450sx was just too much of a beast for me, not a good woods bike at all.
And I just finished getting the old tires off, dreading putting the new ones on. But that will be a project for me tomorrow. I want to clean up the wheels all nice nice while I have them down here and before the tires go on. Guess I should invest in a good skid plate too, lol.

Good idea, you will want to have a skid plate to ride here...and disk guards, bark busters, spare foot pegs, spare levers, maybe some extra bark busters, a bunch of bolts...better yet, bring both bike..ahah.
I'm always amazed at what I find in the trails while walking through moving blow downs out of the way

Here it is, and I like the bar risers. Makes it feel more comfortable, but it still hasn't gone out for a ride with all the damn snow on the ground.

I like the blue frame! Is that the FMF power bulge ? (insert joke here). and is that an aftermarket fork upper crown? if so what are the benefits of it?

It is an FMF Megabomb.. It also has the FMF Ti slip on to go with it. Much louder than the stock stuff I can tell that. And the upper tree is a Scotts with bar risers, not sure of any advantages other than it feels more comfortable to me.
Here is the Megabomb description from FMF..

For Closed Course Competition Use Only. Not Intended for Street Use.

The science behind the Megabomb header may be our greatest engineering accomplishment to date. You can bolt on a Megabomb with an existing FMF Racing slip on for as much as a 3hp boost, plus the Megabomb actually reduces noises levels by as much as 1.5dB. The Megabomb technology is revolved to produce more low end to mid range gains as well as broadening out the mid to top end power gains over stock. The Megabomb is best used for Motocross/Supercross and GNCC style trails. Used by Factory Teams, the Megabomb is the next level technology you can have today.

Produces long header torque and short header over-rev
Reduces sound output as much as 1.5dB
Increases output from stock motor as much as 3hp
Made from premium American TiMetal material

Re: New to off road, thinking of a wr250r. Any thoughts?

Been a while without any updates, now that the snow is gone and the schedule has changed, I've been getting her ready for the season. Found some cool ideas while frequenting the WR250Rforum pages, including a Scaggs rear rack, which bolts directly to the rear frame, and a nice Wolfman waterproof rollie bag. Got everything mounted up this week, along with some great MA off road stickers (why do they have to take up so much space again?) Anyway, some pics:

Also, question for you off road folks, what do you keep on the bike for emergencies / just in case supplies?

Re: New to off road, thinking of a wr250r. Any thoughts?

    wow, nice...looks awesome

    I don't take anything...I should though

but I went with a friend, a camel bak, my truck key, and a cell phone...

if you have questionable reliability, get it sorted before you go out there.

even if you get a flat, you can ride on the tire (slowly) to get home...but all in all, if I had to carry something, thought the factory toolkit on the DR200 was sufficient - with the tools in there, I could get the seat off, fenders off, carb off, and try to clean out jets on the trail. Mostly had a reversible philips/slotted screwdriver, 10/11/12mm wrenches, spark plug wrench, axle wrench (with extension), and a few zip ties, and needlenose pliers. The only thing I'd add was a pilot jet screwdriver (or equivalent precision screwdriver). I used to carry a spare clutch lever (you really need one to get home) after I went to Hodges and dumped the xr200 within 100 yards of being out there, breaking the lever off clean...but meh, other times I just started it in neutral rolled it slowly, shifted into 2nd, and that was enough to get home (as long as I never had to stop)

lookin' good! can't wait for Hodges to empty out. pool level is dropping about 5ft per day, at ~7.5ft now (was ~15 few days ago)

on the MA ORV stickers, yeah, they suck. i laminate mine then use clear packing tape to hold two large zip ties and mount to upper fork between the triples. this way you can remove them easily if needed and not destroy them... like for fork work.

on tools, i'm lazy about taking stuff these days but used to carry a pack always. there are a few good threads/checklists on ADV and other forums but here's a few links to help build a kit. i'm in the process of building a minimal pack now...

Finally got a chance to go for a little spin yesterday, and had a blast, it's got more than enough pep for around town, probably enough to get in a little trouble with! I went by HVD to try it out on some of the more open fire road style trails, but the trail access was blocked off. Any other good dirt roads in the Oxford area anyone knows of or state parks close by that are legal to ride on?

blocked off? do you mean the yellow gate(s)?

i've got some great routes up around the Brookfield/Oakham/Hardwick/Barre area. we used to sumo/DS out there quite a bit but not much true 'off-road' if you're looking for sans-pavement.

if you can get through, and it's not too far (i'm used to loooong days exploring around the Quabbin)... check out Coldbrook, Old Wood, etc around 122 and patch over to Barre Falls Dam 62. all dirt roads. sometimes they're closed but fun mix and a nice place to chill while you recharge for the jaunt home.
