    Life without a streetbike

seems ironic to post this on a forum called "street riders" but a large number of us on here are racers or track day riders. After 16 years of owning my faithful yellow GSX-R, it looks like i'll be parting ways with it later tonight.

Have any of you "track only" people regretted it later on? I still have my Grom, so i wont be completely bikeless if i catch the urge to go for a ride on a nice day.

I keep having to explain to the clerk at the town hall why the milage on my one street bike doesn't change year after year. No regrets, bike is being held on as it has family sentimental value, and it's silly cheap to keep it road legal should the desire come up once a year, maybe?

I bought chips V storm couple years back. Never rode it. Just moving it around the garage when I get to something.
Street riding means nothing it me any more. Occasionally I want to take a ride for half a day but my lifestyle doesn’t allow for it. Maybe when the kiddos are older.

no, it's a hotbodies slash cut for an 04-05 1000 (i think) that was welded onto the headers. it's very loud and i'm not a fan of it. looks cool, but that's about it. was done by the original owner.

I like having a streetbike, but not a sporty streetbike. I personally love my ADV with hard bags, it makes things like grocery shopping more fun and let's us ride 2 up here and there.

Although, I will say out here I NEED a streetbike bc I don't do traffic and lanesplitting is amazing

Almost made it back to the street this year with the FZ6 then found the R6 and said fuck it. I don't care enough about street riding to dedicate a bike to it and there are bikes I can steal if I need a fix.

Sold the bike after 16 years of owning it. Told the new owner about this forum, so maybe we’ll see it on here in the future.

    Re: Life without a streetbike

I’m currently on the flow down from track/race only bikes back to “street” riding but mainly BDRs or adventure rides. I’ve learned the less cars/people the more enjoyable riding a motorcycle is to me. Commuting to work sucks but I do it for the fuel costs and parking. I see no frills in it but getting on a bike, riding up some dirt switchbacks in the Rockies or PNW is something you can’t describe.

Don’t *need* it, nor do I do a lot, but my local dirt spot needs a plate and you can’t beat the convenience of heading out on a nice day. Been (street)bike less before and the itch to scratch came up a lot more than I could handle. SoCal tho…dunno if that changes my climate impacted riding reasons.

    Re: Life without a streetbike

Barely ride my bikes anymore now that I have a sports car that that scratches that itch and is essentially a bike on 4 wheels.

Even more so, it feels like cheating driving around in a car with no windshield but without a helmet and being legal and not being afraid to bash my head into anything.

Any time it's nice enough for bikes its nice enough for a roadster and I just tend to take the roadster out.

When it's broken however, bikes are the first alternate choice.

I track only socially and haven't had many bike friends to track with recently, so only been taking cars to the track, and that is for sure less fun especially considering closest track (NYST) isn't fun with cars.

Am I the only one who gets pleasure just from owning a streetbike? I enjoy just having the 998 & the Hyper in the garage.. though I could live without the Hyper

Don't have to change the belts if you never, ever ride it

    Re: Life without a streetbike

Commuting is much better on a bike.

Even with me not exactly loving the Multistrada, it's way better than caging it most days.

I didn't have a street bike over the winter. Sold the Wee cause it just didn't rustle my jimmies anymore.

If you haven't had the desire to ride street, maybe it's time to try out a modern street bike. Some of them are just SO good now.

Try out a street oriented Adv bike. Power/handling/comfort/utility. They have it all.

I managed to find a NOS Termignoni exhaust in titanium, complete with ECU, on eBay from some seller in Greece. I always preferred the look of the Ti exhaust to the CF exhaust and was shocked when I found one!

I'm waiting on a 45mm-to-45mm link pipe because I didn't realize the inlet on the CF system is 50mm.. found a used OEM one on eBay for like $60. It should be here this weekend

    Re: Life without a streetbike

I was all about moto bikes (track and road) from until I discovered mountain bikes. Early on my GF said "you know...you're cheating on your motorcycles with your mountain bikes". T'was true and with fewer and fewer of my riding buddies being able to get out, NHMS track days drying up, the kids needing more attention and the ridiculous urban sprawl that exponentially increased the local traffic widening the gap. Mountain bikes were instantly more appealing especially since I have so many trail systems inside my commuting circle I could squeeze an 8 mile tech loop into my day and still be home for dinner. Do I miss moto rides? Less than I thought I would -almost zero actually, especially when I see sport bikes stuck in traffic. Seems like a game for kids to me at this point. It made no sense to have bikes taking up space in the garage only to use them a handful of times a year.
