Setting a stock suspension? Worth it?

Hello Suspension Gods...

I have a 2002 VFR800... I'd like to know that the suspension it properly set up for me... Now... I'm not an overly aggresive rider... and would tend to think that the stock suspension, when properly set, would be more then able to perform on the street...

Am I correct in this assumption?

And if I am... what is the going rate to come in and have the stock suspension properly dialed in?

Any known issues or suggestions for the VFR suspension?

Thanks in advance!

Mike

If you just set the sag correctly it should be a hell of a lot better.

Even at my featherweight 165 right now it was way too soft stock. It handles much better and is much more comfortable with the correct preload.

I'm 180 without gear... so I'm sure it's too soft... problem is I've done zero suspension setup... prolly lazy too

I was told most stock suspensions are set for 150lb rider... dunno if there is truth to that... but dats what I hear

check your sag with all you gear on.

go from there, you'll know right off if you need a higher rate spring.

check the vfr boards for initial preload, compression settings and spring options . one of the first things i do after the bike is broken in is to check and set the sag and to confirm all the preload and compression settings. i write all this down, it will give you a good baseline to start with.

Well I know it's not true for the ZX10. I sat on Kham's bike last tuesday and I couldn't move that rear suspension for the life of me. It had zero sag. Insanity.

Thanks for the replies fellers....

Ride in today I noticed quite a bit of "whalowing" in the turns... dunno if that is the right term... maybe "mushy" Is that a technical term

Anywho... will start looking into it this weekend... thanks again!
