Tweaked R1

I bought an R1 in the fall, it was dropped on its right side and has a small, dime sized dent in the upper left side of the frame, right by the tank. Also, all of the upper fairings seem to be moved to the right about an inch, which I am hoping I can fix with a new upper fairing mount.

Because of that dime sized dent, is there something corrsponding going on in the lower left hand part of the frame? Does the bike need to come and visit you? The dent doesn't bother me, there is a carbon fiber cover over it.

Thanks!

It's worth measuring just to be sure. Most frame damage can not be seen. The bending occures when the tire rubs on the ground and twists the frame around the steering head. I have seen plenty of chassis with that dent, caused by the handle bar end, where that was the only damage, but you really should have me measure it just to be sure. Or you can check it the old fashoined way, go 100 mph, take your hands off the bars and see what happens!

I've tried the letting go of the handlebars trick at about 110, and I got some really minimal shake I *think* is just the tires.

How long would you need the bike for to measure the frame?

Thanks!

I'll get it measured the week you drop it off, and call you with an estimate.

Ok, cool.....out of curiousity, could you straighten the upper fairing mount, or am I being a cheap bastard?

Also, how much do you suppose just the measuring will run?

Thanks again!

That sounds good, I'll likely have you do it....

Vermont isn't really on the way from Albany, though

I'm sure there will be an NESR gathering down that way at some point this winter, I could bring it down to you, unless you'd prefer driving all the way up here......

It's closer than Bellingham, and this time of year I'll jump off a cliff for work! How far are you from say Troy? I could make a dinner run Friday night if it's not more than an hour.

....Dont jump off any cliffs, okay??

I am about 2 1/2 hours from Albany/Troy, its a sucky drive. If I had time this weekend, I would meet you somewhere, but unfortunately I dont.

If we dont get together before Christmas though, I will make a special trip to drink in Boston again.....I mean bring the bike down to you.....

Hey- do you think you could get me the upper fairing bracket/mount/stay/whateverthehellitscalled?

It'll be a bit before I can come in and have the bike measured and fixed, Christmas has been mean to my wallet.

Thanks!!
