Looking for some starting setting

Hey Pete, I have a 2001 SV650, front end is mostly stock about to be replaced with .85 springs and thicker oil (what do you recc'?)

I have a Penske double clicker that I just installed. The bike weighs about 400lb, I am 205 without gear, The shock has a 650 in/lb spring on it. Its set at minimal ride height 13 1/2"

Any idea where I should put the Comp and Rebound at? What kind of free sag and sag should I be getting?

Thanks for your help

Shock length is not a relative number for handling, swing arm angle, rake, trail, wheel base, swing arm length and front ride height are. That's why I measure every bike with Computrack. So I don't know what a good shock lenght is, but as for your suspension, .95 fork springs, 30 wt. oil with the rebound bleed welded shut will work. Set the oil level at 120mm. a #650 spring is fine set it to 12mm preload and you should get 0-6mm free sag, 25-30 total sag. Set the rebound adjuster to -21 click and the compression to #3.

Thanks for your help, Pete.

When you say to set the rebound at -21 is that 21 clicks from all the way turned in?

Yes, ok that makes sense. All I have right now though is .85 springs. Would 20wt be appropriate for that?

The bike will be used for a couple trackdays but mostly street use. I don't want to have it set up well for the track but be a bear on the street with stiff springs.

your .85 are way too soft, .95's will not be stiff with a #200 rider.

Hey Peter, I just put .95 springs in my forks, and racetech told me to run 2.5-5 wt suspension fluid. I hover around 200lbs without gear, is this the weight I should be running? I used thier stuff when i did the springs but now I'm wondering if it's right.

P.S. I didn't end up installing the gold valves. I'll probably come down to you at some point and have you install them for me and maybe help me toy with my settings.

I assume this is you 03 600RR Honda? I would run 10 or 15 wt with the stock valving, the only problem you'll rubn into is when the oil heats up and fades and cavitates. It will feel too soft and rebound too fast. I would get the rebound revalved and the either the gold valves or my Dual Speed Pistons in ASAP.

I have the gold valves at my place. What would it run me to bring you the kit and have the rebound done as well. Could you PM me with a price when you get a chance? Probably won't be till at least after the first race weekend.

Ok, I will pick up a set of .95's springs and sell the .85's. Do you recc' a particular brand of oil?

When you say to weld the rebound bleed hole shut this is something that can be done aside from installing emulators and such?
