New shock -> Fork work?

My 98 zx6r is getting a bit old, and I figured she was due for some rear shock rework, 6+ years of new england frost heaves and road crap can't be good after all. I had heard that it was a waste of money to rebuild a stock shock so I figured what the hell, bought one of those aftermarket deals. A yellow one, I heard they were good or something (46PRCS if it makes a difference)

I'm gearing up to change the fork oil on the front since it has also gone 6 years without a swap, and I'm not so keen on dropping the 5 large on matching yellow upside down forks so I figure they'll have to do. Question though, am I seriously compromising the usefulness of my new found fancy rear bouncer by not doing some front fork rework as well? I've heard about revalving but honestly I have no idea what that does. As for the springs, racetech says I should go about a half kg higher for the track from stock, but is that going to make a large difference to the point where I should bother?

I'm a 6'1, 170lb rider if it makes a difference. And I'm slow. But I'm working on that.
