R6 suspension upgrades (for friend)

Hey Pete,

Told my buddy I'd post this up and get the sage advice.

My friend and teammate is racing a 2004 R6 this season. He used to race years ago back in his home country but it was a FAR cry from what we do up at LRRS (was much more... low tech if you will). As a result.. the words Suspension Upgrades aren't in his vocab. Well in 3 weekends of racing, he's pulling mid 19's and leading the MW races. That is until he crashed out of 1st this past weekend with a straightaway lead.. He's now realizing he needs to 'bite the bullet' and upgrade the stock boingers. Shit I rode his bike and did 30's and thought it felt like crap! ha.

So. What would you advise the next steps are?

Myself (and other teammate) were thinking.

Front
--------
Springs and vavlejob (Racetech or the like)

Rear
----------
Resprung and valved

He's thinking he needs to buy a whole new shock for the rear... Wasn't sure if that 'was the case' or of the stock unit (set up properly) would be sufficent (since they are fully adjustable and all that).

You imput is much appreciated. Thank you.

-alex

I just saw this tread, don't know why I missed it before. I gueass you are talking about Erasmo, his forks are done and the shock may be drop shipped to NHIS on Friday. We can talk about your bike this week end at the track.

Hey Peter,

Yup talking about Erasmo the Panamaniac. I guess he already contacted you then.. I should have figured, he gets a lil 'Gung Ho' sometimes, dudes a hoot. Anyhow sounds like he'll be set to rights.

What are you talking about regarding my bike? I didn't mention anything about the raceHawk.. however I'll gladly bring it by and show it to ya next time I'm up at LRRS. Unfortunately I won't be making this weekend.. be back in Sept.

Speaking of the raceHawk.. That bike's suspension probably hasn't been touched in years. The old owner was a Expert doing 19's on it (which is flat out hauling on a Hawk) and I'm POSITIVE it hasn't been changed since. I've just been riding it as is. I'm thinking after the season to swap out the Racetech F2 forks on it with a USD 929 unit. I'm also taking the Fox shock OFF and putting a Ohlins ON (streetHawk has a Ohlins..). Fun stuff.

Thanks. Have fun this weekend.
