Question

Lowering question

I have a '92 GSXR750 and am vertically challenged. I've read up on this bike and see they don't make lowering kits for it. Of course they started in '93, just my luck! I was wondering if I could take a coil or 2 off of the spring in the damper and how much would that affect the handling of the bike. Would this make that much of a difference? Are there any other ways of lowering this bike backyard-mechanic like? I appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks.

Cutting a spring will make it stiffer.

Rather than do something to the suspension,
can you pull off the seat and replace the existing foam
with automotive high density foam an inch thick?

You can get it at a junk yard from seat bottoms if you are
strapped for cash.

Personally, I would not mess with suspension components
until you consult with a pro ...

typically with some bikes, you can swap out the dogbones
the shock is attached to. But like everything else, the price
you pay may not be worth it.

There are several ways to lower a bike. Many of the comercially available products are not well engineered and severly compromise handling and suspension perfomance. I can lower just about any bike, but how much you want to lower it will dictate what method to use. Is there a time next week when you can ride by the shop and I can see you on the bike and we can talk about how much it will cost? I'll be back from the races on Tuesday 5/16.

My girl friend is 4'-11-1/2" (God help me if I forget the 1/2") and getting her comfortable on her race and street bikes led to some interesting solutions. We moved handle bars, foot pegs, lowered the ride hieghts, and still had to keep it handling good for the track. I'm sure we can do some thing to get the bike to fit you.

I hear ya on the 1/2 inch! And YES it does make a difference! I could probably come up next Thursday, pending weather of course. I'm about an hour south of you. Let me know what works best for you.
